Sevilla (A) | Post Match Thread

I think he was more alluding to as soon as we got possession, we kept playing long balls or attempted Hollywood passes in to Haaland.

What I got was Pep wanted us to retain possession & build up our attacks with passes until a clear opportunity presented itself to pass to Haaland.

It's early days. Haaland offers little during our build up play unlike Mbappé/Kane etc, but he's more lethal in the box. Personally I think we'll have to meet Haaland half way. He'll have to adjust to how we play & we'll have adjust to him. We'll get there in the end.
11 goals in 7 games. Hope we get there soon

I've no problem with Grealish as a player, when he's good he's good, but tonight wasn't one of those nights, hence Pep pulled him off after 62 minutes, clearly he wasn't happy, and nor was Pep, hence the debrief which the camera's showed, and then the obvious "sulk", so it wasn't so he can start on Saturday v Spurs, (happy to be quoted on Saturday if wrong).
Either I don’t understand the meaning of “hence,” or I have to disagree.

Recently back from injury, do 60 mins is standard. Grealish thought he was playing well and not gassed, so wanted to stay on. He doesn’t get to make those decisions, Pep does, sometimes with the input of the Sports Science guys mapping their output.

In “All of Nothing” we heard how he felt about sulking. Sulking your way off the pitch, after 60 mins, 2-0 up in the CL, in front of a global audience, is verboten with Pep. The end.

the beauty of having as many excellent attacking players is that we don’t need Haaland to offer great amounts of build up play. The players around him do that. That’s why we wanted a proper striker isn’t it?

Kane is an excellent player when it comes to assists and build up play, Didn’t he get top goals and assist both in the same season two seasons ago? But a large part of that is out of necessity too, he’s obviously good enough to do it which should be respected, but he doesn’t have the depth of talent around him that we have at city. I bet if he did, his managers would be keener for him to just be focusing on banging goals in if they had more creative players and his finishing at their disposal.

Kane is going to go his entire career and win fuck all isn't he?
Whoever let him sign a 6 year contract with no release clause is a fucking muppet (no it wasn't his brother).
It's about time we scored the amount of goals our play has deserved against these fucking pretenders and counter attack merchants. I think they're getting some wallop this weekend. I hope fucking Contes wig falls off?

Pretty much like Aguero needed to adjust. Most pundits didn't think Sergio could fit Pep's style but he proved everyone wrong. The rest of Europe must be worried about when Haaland fits into our style of play lol

i can't tell if Haaland just makes the defenders look like they're not trying properly because of how fast/strong he is or that defenders just don't have a fucking clue how to deal with him.
Both goals no one even bothered trying to track him properly.

HIs Second by the way was brilliant play by gundog, he made their player come with him keeping haaland onside for the rebound. Very smart!
Haaland is just a tap in merchant.

Quality performance against a notoriously difficult opponent away at Sevilla. Though they aren't what they were, never easy to put 4 past them and we did it with ease.

Thought Phil was motm. He was outstanding. Quality goal and he had them on skates for the time he was on. Thought Grealish showed a lot more, just his final ball was lacking but much prefer him dribbling at people. Gomez & Akanji looked like great pick ups, Akanji was just faultless, looks the potential of a great partnership with Dias & Gomez I thought showed more & more the longer the game went.

Haaland's just going to do what he does, 12 in 7 is a ridiculous stat I thought he could've had 4 or 5 this morning, he's always there in the right spot.

Great performance to start the UCL campaign, onto Spurs now and we got some rest into the key players. Exactly what we were hoping for.
