Perhaps. Though, I am not sure a 22 year-old from one the world’s most physical leagues requires a week off to “recover” from playing just over 180 minutes in three matches, one of which was a freindly.

Does Pep not trust Alvarez yet?

Pep likes to play players who aren’t playing that well into form.

I’d have picked Alvarez tonight, but we’ve seen it over the years with him picking Sterling when he’s been poor, and I think it’s down to trying to get them playing well again.

I suppose if you’re out of form, you’re not going to play yourself into form sat on the bench.
