Sh*t football

What about the Chelsea game?? I agree with Plodder Blue in his assesment. I have never seen such quality passing & solid well organised defence in all my years watching City. We're only a tweak away from drwg with the likes of Birmingham to convincingly defeating them. This is the right path, Mancini is the right man at the helm it just might not happen overnight.
Last season - 5-1
This season - 0-0

We've gone backwards in that regard.

I have a season ticket so am going to go regardless. Many others will do the same.

However, let's look at the floating fan here. Your average bloke with not much cash. One who supports City but doesn't share that feeling where he is compelled to go to every game. I would say that we have a hardcore of 30/35,000 who go to every game. The rest of the seats are shared around between many others.

Now, you say you are only interested in the result, well that's fair enough. However, if you are only interested in the result itself, what's the motivation for getting out of your bed and paying £40 plus all your other sundry expenses to go to the game? You might as well just flick on the remote at 4.45pm and see how the game finished then cheer or moan accordingly.

If a bloke has limited money, then he wants to get enjoyment out of that money. He wants to be entertained. I certainly wouldn't want to squander my last bit of spare cash to be bored rigid.

If we continue to see this turgid football week in, week out, then it's only a matter of time before crowds are hit big time, and with UEFA's break even policy looming, that is not something the club could afford to happen. In fact, it would be an unmitigated disaster.

Given the money spent and the promises made to the fans, this club should be selling out well in advance at the moment. The 44,000 crowd on Saturday was not only short, I believe it also included many season ticket holders who were not there. There certainly looked a lot more empty seats than that.

If you don't entertain the public, they will find something else to spend their money on. Clubs like United and Liverpool can afford to piss off their existing support because they've got thousands waiting to take their place. We have not got that luxury.

There are occasions when you are happy to see us win no matter how we play, but you don't want that every bloody week.
Take a bow DD

I used Birmingham hyperthetically but my drift is we are getting there. I'll go win, lose or draw anyway.

If cautious unexciting football was winning us the games that we are capable of winning then yes I could watch it happily even if it was not particularly entertaining.

But.....

Arsenal play lovely football. Won nowt for 5 years though!

-- Mon Nov 15, 2010 9:05 pm --

What promises were made to the fans, and who made them?

Sorry to have to say it but United normally play entertaining football and they have won everything,if the balance is right you can combine the two.

-- Mon Nov 15, 2010 8:11 pm --

Maybe not a promise:

Mancini said: "When we go to Old Trafford we will take that banner down. This is the last year it will be up because we will win, for sure.

"I am well aware how long it is since City last won a trophy, but this season we have a great opportunity to put that right.

"We are in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup and, if we play well and if we have total concentration, it is possible that we will arrive in the final.

"It will be a good game because both teams like to play football and all my concentration is on facing United because if we win the two legs, then we will go to the final and that is the most important thing."

They were entertaining when we beat them 5-1 but fergie had only spent millions and been there a few years.

Pragmatic but successful teams fill their stadiums, going back to the Herbert Chapman days.A much bigger iceberg for English football is the coming recession. It could see the end of a few clubs altogether, probably not london clubs but certainly those from the regions who are struggling now.those fans who used to pick and choose the games to watch may just sack it altogether, not sure how many there are, though

Fair enough but are we going to hang him for saying that? perhaps he should say "this is a big job and we need time to get it right, we need the city fans to be patient because this tem might need more that 13 games to become champions"

Your correct awest, but the point I was trying to make is that winning trophies and entertaining football can go hand in hand.
