It depends again, to what degree. Jewish courts have operated in parallel with the UK legal system for decades if not centuries, and are used to settle or arbitrate between disputes without any bad press. Use the word Muslim and show people getting beheaded and people will be instantly mis informed.

Sharia would use the UK legal system as a cornerstone and would settle family and financial matters. I doubt there will be public stonings on Cheetham Hill Rd, but that’s the perception people have. Its here now, Imams and people of stature in the Muslim community already go to these people to help settle disputes. In some sections of society, people go to the local gangster or enforcer to help settle disputes, which is more worrying.

Firstly, 'sharia' means 'law', so you're essentially saying 'law law'.

Pedantry aside, we already have Sharia in the UK. It governs all manner of aspects of daily life, and the most obvious example is in Islamic banking and business contracts. I believe there are also a few Sharia civil courts, much in the same we have Jewish ones.

I can't say I'm in favour of parallel legal systems working alongside common and civil law - particularly ones informed by scripture - but to imagine that Sharia is all about lopping off the hands of criminals and stoning people is wrong in the extreme, and informed by nothing more than the Daily Mail. Those aspects will never be adopted, and rightly so.
