Shay Given - Why the lost love?

What's the score with Shay Given? Has Hart overtaken him in the pecking order now? Last season, most of you were hailing Given as the best keeper in the world.

What happened?

I wasn't. I got roundly slated for stating at the beginning of last season that it was a mistake to let Hart go on loan and, with arguments, that Joe was the better keeper. Even if you don't think he is the finished article, which at his age he isn't, you either pick him now or run the risk of losing him for the future. For me it's a no brainer and Mancini made the right decision.

What a fantastic dilema to have. The two BEST keepers in the premiership - without any question - and we have both of them. Given is one of the best keepers in the world, but last season, like it or not, we did not have access to Hart. But without doubt, Hart was the obvious choice - coz he is deffo ENGLANDS NUMBER 1 in future. He is young and appears to be no where near his peak but still brilliant. I watched many of the birmingham games and he was the reason they did so well. Birmingham cannot score for shit but Hart was the difference between loads of draws becoming loads of lost games.

Given should have the guts to stay here, fight for his place and be prepared to step in if needed for the potentially massive amount of games we have coming up with the euros, league, fa and league stuff. What pisses me off is that Given was all 'its about the team' last season but one whiff of not being first choice, and he starts to moan and groan and states he wants to be playing 1st team football elsehwere.

Given - just accept the situation - get on with the job of helping the TEAM - like Vieira - and get your head down. Fight for your place, fight for the team and get behind everyone

Don't think there is any love lost. They are both great keepers. Joe Hart deserves to be starting at the moment on form & he is still young & can be our keeper for years to come, where as Shay is on his way out. Based on this I would opt for Hart. He was immense on Saturday.

Don't really want Shay to leave but would understand if he did. Would be more gutted if Hart left to be honest.

I think it's more of a situation where he's been a model professional about everything to this point... to be honest I expected more from him than whining to the media. definitely not burning bridges and still rate him highly though, theres no lost love...

Don't understand why you think any keeper who would probably be first choice at any club with only about 3-4 years left in the game would be happy warming any bench ?

Not sure what the question is about (apart from being a bit of WUMming obviously)

Are you asking why he's not playing ? If so because he wasn't picked, it seems pretty straightforward to me, the manager picked someone else.

Are you asking why the fans have "lost love" for Given ? If so well I would say most haven't, in my case I've learnt over 40 years never to fall "in "love" with a player because its here today gone tomorrow in most cases.

Personally I'm with the manager all the way on this one, its called longer term thinking, and if Given can't be bothered to try and fight for his place then I'll be happy to see him go, as I would any other footballer that ever plays for Manchester City.

The only "love" most have us have is for Manchester City FC, owners, chairmen, execs, managers, coaches, players come and go, but the supporters remain through thick and thin, well in our case its mostly been thin and thinner.

As an Everton (the self professed peoples club) fan, I'd have thought you'd have understood that.

No lost love. City fans still rate him, although I never saw anybody seriously claiming he was the best in the world, but we've got another excellent keeper in Hart who really showed what he was made of at Birmingham last season and had a superb return at Tottenham and was better in pre-season too. If the pragmatic decision must be made to keep Hart, who can be our No. 1 for years to come, and who has been at the club longer than Given, then so be it. I'll wish Given every success and wouldn't mind at all if, after he finishes his career elsewhere, he came back in a coaching role or other capacity. Everton must be interested Shirley - after Blackburn? ;)

Because he is being two faced. Last season it was all TEAM TEAM TEAM and now its all ME ME ME. He should be happy to be on the bench and fight for his place rather than sulk. He is a great keeper, but he needs to play his part in our progression rather than flee for the hills and throw his toys out the pram

Because since the arrival of the money an awful lot of fans have become the most fickle obnoxious twats i have ever seen

Why are the Everton fans still Squatting on the city forums a year after we signed Lescott ?
