Sheffield Wednesday thread

We have a preferred bidder (David Storch/US) and it looks like things are going through the process with EFL/administrators etc. We will still have the -15 for next season but we are hoping to negotiate on wage limit restrictions.

I read yesterday they are looking to complete on 1st May, which would be a fantastic boost for the final game of the season the following day.

Fingers crossed

Best wishes. The way Wednesday fans have suffered is ridiculous. Sheffield is a proper football city but both clubs seem to be jinxed.

Whatever happens they need to move from Hillsborough even if it's a ground share with Rotherham before finding a new site. A decent memorial and new housing New start

I lived there twenty odd years and indeed it's a proper football city - birthplace of the game - and the passion of the fans endures despite that jinx. The lack of local wealth was long an issue but it's baffling how they have not attracted a proper investor like Bournemouth have and Leicester did. The potential of both clubs particularly Wednesday is huge.

Very best wishes. Sickening how the Football League have prolonged the punishment after the problems were solely down to one man.

Would like them to win a couple before the end of the season so they can at least have a positive points total. Must have been an awful season for Wednesday fans, and there but for the grace of god if things had turned out differently for City. Sliding doors and all that.

Hope they can draw a line under things and bounce back next season.

Wasn’t aware of this. That’s poor form and somewhat gratuitous. A line needs to be drawn imo. You can’t keep punishing a club to the point that it cripples them in perpetuity.

Sheffield Wednesday were one of the original Big Five clubs in English football (Villa Sunderland Wednesday Newcastle and Blackburn).
If my old boss was reading this (he isn’t), he’d be screaming Preston at the screen.

Thanks m8, appreciated.

In a bizarre way I don't.

I want us to finish on minus points as a reminder to us (and all other clubs) how bad this season has been, and how 1 man can trash a club and making us the worst ever team. Nobody will finish on minus points again

Apart from City next season…

Good luck next season, mate :-)

It's been confirmed by the EFL that Wednesday will start next season on -15 points , due to the very small amount that creditors will get if the American consortium (who are the preferred bidders) are successful in purchasing the club.
So not much to look forward to next season for Wednesday fans.

Wednesday's situation demonstrates the need for more financial oversight by the authorities.
We need a process where club owners can be forced to sell if creditors, players, stadium staff etc are not paid on time, instead of waiting years and having information coming out drip by drip thus leading to multiple financial penalties. Chansiri has been less than useless for many years yet the EFL have done nothing, possibly because there was no mechanism for them to act.
If the preferred bidder is only offering to cover a tiny percentage of debts then perhaps it's better if the club went under and started again. There would be no shortage of buyers if they could retain the use of Hillsborough.
The other thing we need is more frequent analysis of clubs financial circumstances in the hope problems can be spotted early. This may go against standard business practice (or practise) but too many disreputable arseholes are being allowed to own football clubs.
Having said all that: Wednesday should be able to survive in the third tier even if they start on minus fifteen so they can spent the 26-27 season preparing for a major promotion push in 27-28.

I moved to Sheffield when I was 10 years old from Denton and have loads of SWFC mates as lived there for 13 years.

I think they would be better off being a Phoenix Club and start again, most of these twats circling the corpse have no interest in the club. They would have to start in National League due to their support but that would be my option.

I wouldnt give Chancer the steam off my piss.

Me neither

This is a press release from perspective new owner David Storch, like the Bord group are they looking to pull out due to what needs to be done.

If so barring Mike Ashley coming around the table again is that curtains for us? A lot of Wednesday fans think it could be.
