I bet you were sat down though.

Great end to a shite period of the club's history

Yer not wrong you cheeky bugger! I was watching the 4:40 at Newmarket whilst laughing at Salford. I laughed so hard at GNIAC, I had to sit my fat arse down (again).

As good as yesterday was, I do think if the Baggies still needed something it may have been a different outcome.

I think they'll be up around the playoffs next season.
33k just remember that when other certain clubs go on about how great there plastic fanbase is
I am a big believer of judge a fanbase when they are on their backsides, it's a lot easier to watch a winning team.

The 28k+ that attended home games at Maine Road during the 98/99 season tend to agree with you.

But was the attendance on Saturday a statement of true support or just a one-off celebrating the end of both Chansiri and an absolutely shite season. - And if it's true support where have they been for the past couple of decades.
Their gate receipts will piss all over other League One teams next season and at that level turnstile money plays a far bigger part than in the Championship and Prem.

Probably a bit of both.

We had about 19k ST holders this season, be interesting what next season looks like. We were really expensive for this level under "him", if the new owners get it right we might have way more next season.

Feels weird being in May and I've not already handed over my money yet, last season my "early bird" window that lasted about 2 weeks max was at the beginning of January.

Congratulations to Sheffield Wednesday on finally being taken over after several years of incompetence. Better still, they will not face a 15 point deduction when they start life in the 3rd tier next season

Living close to Sheffield and having friends and colleagues who follow that great club, it has been very sad to see them suffer the consequences of their club being run into the ground by the selfish actions of one man. They should not have had to go through the mental turmoil that they have had.

The need for an independent football regulator who scrutinises club owners has been needed more, because the existing football bodies such as the Premier League and Football League have failed clubs, supporters and indeed football with their own incompetence and self-interest.

Wednesday are a famous old club, formed in 1867, and they are still the most successful in Yorkshire. Not that you’d know it given the hot air and hype in Leeds. When I was a first year student in Sheffield in 1983 as Howard Wilkinson’s team battled with City, Chelsea and Newcastle for promotion to the old 1st Division, I was amazed by how big Wednesday were, and how fervent their support was, turning out in their droves, many of them on their uncovered Kop and often in driving rain. Sadly for us that 4 way fight for promotion in 83-84 was lost with Chelsea just winning a very strong division from runners-up Wednesday and Newcastle who had a veteran Kevin Keegan supported by two young forwards in Peter Beardsley and Chris Waddle.

Back in 1984, Wednesday back then had been out of the top flight for the longest spell in the club’s history – 14 years after being relegated (by a City team that had its eyes on winning the Cup Winners Cup Final a few days later). Financial mismanagement in the 70s and relegation to the 3rd division for the first time in their history and further stagnation that almost led to a spell in the 4th division but for a tense 2-1 win over Southend. It took the impressive management of Jack Charlton, some clever recruitment of quality players like Terry Curran and City’s Ian Mellor, and good young players like Mark Smith and Peter Shirtliff to turn the ship around and a famous 4-0 Boxing Day Massacre of rivals Sheffield United resonates even today. Charlton took Wednesday back to the top end of the 2nd Division and they were close to promotion without quite making it before Howard Wilkinson took them back to the promised land with talents like Imre Varadi, Gary Bannister and local flying wing back Mel Sterland complimenting the grit and determination of Gary Megson, Lawrie Madden, Smith, Shirtliffe and veteran captain Mike Lyons. .

Back in 1983 I never though that famous institution would never ever return to the 3rd Division. Next season will be their 5th in the 3rd tier of English football.

Wednesday is a club that is of similar size to City and they had 15 years in the top flight in two spells (1984-90 and 1991-00), winning the 1991 League Cup against United as a 2nd Division team that won promotion under Ron Atkinson too that season. A team of great style, with smooth flowing football, they thrived in the First Division and early premier League years after that, finishing 3rd one season with great players like Chris Waddle, John Sheridan and David Hirst. Other great players like an ageing Trevor Francis and Des Walker arrived, before a decline at the end of the 90s and relegation in 2000. I enjoyed going along to watch that fabulous team when City weren’t playing, and even went to one of their European games against Kaiserslautern.

Sheffield Wednesday have been out of the top flight for 26 years and it could be 30 before they return.

Several City fans have a soft spot for Wednesday (just have a look at the Bluemoon forum), and like them I wish them all the very best. It will be a long hard journey back from the 3rd Division, but they have new ownership that seems determined, organised and genuine in contrast to the previous regime. A dilapidated old ground that is stuck in the 90s, tired, unfit for purpose training ground and indeed whole club infrastructure needs updating and rebuilding. They need to improve their recruitment significantly and produce their own players again as most of the best talent in Sheffield ends up at their city rivals.

Wednesday need to recruit a new team effectively an face tight restrictions as to what they can spend Maybe City can lend them some more young players in a move that could benefit young talent in terms of gaining experience and indeed both clubs.

Wednesday are waiting to take off. The last big club that has not had a revival in this century. Not many clubs can draw 33,000 plus people like they did on Saturday to watch an already relegated team win to reach zero points!

Wednesday’s support particularly away from home is phenomenal.

I have fond memories of travelling back over to Manchester with Wednesdayite mates and colleagues over several decades and hope to do so again. I want to see those famous Blue and white shirts in the Premier League again one day. I may even make the short trip from where I work to lend my support when I can if they will have me. Hillsborough will have more than a few full houses!

Very best wishes to them.

I have a vague and possibly unreliable memory of being on Market Street in Manchester many years ago and buying a Football Pink to learn that Wednesday had beaten u****d 7-2 in the F.A. Cup.
I liked them ever since. But is that result correct?
