Shocking head teacher comments

Surely he should just stick to advocating multiculturalism and apolitical education?
Multiculturalism is political.

This community feels empowered to have their cake and eat it. We full well know the racial undertones of these incidents the past few weeks, particularly in Leeds where the community has been driving round aggressively hooting their horns with their flags out, speeding and the like. Yet they get offended equally when a teacher decides to show a cartoon of their backward storyteller.

And in both cases, they're wrong, as their behaviour shows. Good on them being called out for it.

None of that is incorrect however even if the head teacher sometime teaches politics or similar he should stick to the curriculum. What he said is not part of the curriculum. Everything that descended on his school from that area is invited whether he intended for it to happen or not - foolish in the extreme.

not really. Someone willing to stand up and actually give children real-world experience and a proper grounding should be applauded. These kids are coming from increasingly broken homes with no grounding and the psychological traumas are manifesting in frankly absurd ways these days. We should encourage people who stand up against the blatant racism that's going on in these communities and it should be cracked down upon. The "area" or "community" is irrelevant, particularly if we're in such an "equality" and "diverse" society these days, works both ways.

Is he a head teacher or a political commentator - is he a teacher bound by the national curriculum? I bet if a history teacher strayed into slavery or an RE teacher started advocating the religious view rather than evolution and natural selection there would be much clamour.

would he say flying the Israeli flag is a sign of supporting zionism and the Belarus flag a signal of one's support for state sponsored piracy? He is a tool and frankly dangerous if he is an example of the leadership and guidance for students at his school

I would think if you were to ask any school children of that age to describe what this topic is all about, based on what they have been told by their community, their peers or on what they have seen on social media it would be Palestine vs the Jews.

We’ve seen many examples of Jews being targeted for the state of Israel’s actions. I think the headteacher had the right intentions in what he said but could have worded it better.

The jumping on the bandwagon quote from Ross Greer from the Scottish Green Party.

‘Imagine being a Palestinian kid at this guy’s school, being told your national flag is inherently hateful. Absolutely outrageous and racist behaviour from someone in a position of power.’

Well imagine being a Jewish kid at this guys school and seeing a flag that some people are displaying as an excuse to attack you for your faith for something that has nothing to do with you 5000km away.

How do you know this?

Do you not think that you are generalising here?

Batley grammar school and Allerton Grange are 13 miles apart.

What is the racism that is going on?

Comes across as either ignorant or having zionist beliefs. If the former is true, then he needs to educate and inform himself better.

If it is the latter, he should resign his position. There is no place for those views in a non-religious school with pupils from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

You should probably find out what Zionism means. The so-called Zionism espoused by the nutty settler movement and the right wing religious loons in Israel that many people these days associate with the term bears little relationship to the original meaning that most sane zionists associate themselves with, which had very little to do with religion but simply expressed the view that Jews had a right to a homeland as much as any other ethnic group, especially as they had suffered centuries of antisemitism in most of the places they settled following expulsion from their original homeland. If you believe that Israel has a legitimate right to be there then you are a Zionist. It doesn’t make you a religious nut job or someone who wants to oppress others.

The headmaster was ill advised to make the comments he did and most people supporting the Palestinians are peaceful and have every right to protest against the Netanyahu government, but in much the same way as radical Zionism has given real Zionism a bad name, there are nutters going round waving Palestinian flags around Jewish areas hurling abuse and attacking people giving their cause a bad name, and leading to people saying incorrect things about it.

Yes, there are many forms. It could simply have been taken to be cultural Zionism and a revival of Hebrew language and Jewish culture without a necessity to occupy an area with the boundaries of Greater Israel. Apart from racists and anti-semites nobody would have a problem with language preservation and passing on cultural traditions.

However, the now dominant form of Zionism is the one I was referring to. This is the form of zionism that has dominated Israeli politics and the most powerful positions in government, it is also the zionism that along with American and European allies gaslights people in the west about "the new antisemitism" and smears politicians.

The settlers are not an aberration of the dominant political form of zionism, they are the natural consequences of it. a zionist state that proclaims itself as the homeland of the Jewish people can never allow jews to become a minority in due to changing demographics. The reason why Palestinians have no right of return but Jews from anywhere in the world with no links to Israel besides religion and ethnic heritage do.

The mobs driving around Jewish areas and shouting about raping Jewish daughters are nothing to do with Palestinians and the Palestine solidarity movement.

Multiculturalism is political.

I think I meant tolerance of other cultures rather than textbook multiculturalism.
