Shooting at Mandalay Bay Resort (Las Vegas)

just crazy there. what would possess a man to do that to innocent people??
Second word in your post. What made him think that way? We don't know yet. It will be interesting to hear from his girlfriend, who is currently "out of the country" and whether his father, who was a bank robber (FBI's Most Wanted List years ago) "schooled" his son, or affected him in any way.

Good luck to us all. You are more likely to die in a car crash than a gun shot wound, but the choice is, of course, yours. There is a lot of world out there to enjoy, so I hope you do.

Maybe, "voting" with your vacation dollars is one thing people with real votes would hear? If FL, NY, CA, NV all had zero input of tourist dollars, they might wake up and listen...
Good point

I can buy ammunition at every gas station in town easier than I could buy beer or cigs, never any ID. I can buy a semi automatic rifle at a dozen stores around here, yes they'd run a quick federal check but I'd be out the door in ten minutes.........
Just sayin

You live in the Wild Wild West, too! Militia country!

And, just because of the speed of the check, don't discount its depth.

Not strictly true. There's the Gun show loophole where private sellers dont need to perform a background check. They basically decide for themselves if the buyer looks dodgy.
People do illegal stuff all the time, can't do anything about that. However, it is a FEDERAL OFFENCE for a normal seller at a Gun Show. People talk about the "gun show loophole" all the time, but that is a misnomer. It is ONLY PRIVATE SALES, usually in the parking lot, and the person selling the gun is responsible for the legality of the sale....and not many people selling automatic weapons, are there?

yup interesting to find out. what goes through people’s minds when committing such atrocities

There will be much hand wringing over the next days and weeks, and we shouldn't jump to any conclusions given the severity of the offence and the horrific outcomes. America's gun laws will NOT change because of it, so we can forget that. All we can do is hope those in dire medical condition survive and live long productive lives, and spare a thought for those people who lost loved ones at a happy event in the supposed adult playground of the US.

To anyone on Bluemoon who knows someone in Vegas at this time, I hope they are safe, uninjured, and not impacted by this tragedy.

This is just the sort "now is not the time" crap that got America here in the first place. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

The problem with guns being so easily acquired legally, is it means they are incredibly easy to acquire illegally as well. If they absolutely refuse to make any attempt to clamp down on legal weapon sales of any kind, the absolute minimum they can do is come down like a ton of bricks on anyone owning unlicensed weapons or who is involved in selling them.

Las Vegas mass shooting is 273rd of 2017

Gun Violence Archive, a website that tracks incidents and crimes involving guns across the United States, said Sunday night's attack was the 273rd mass shooting in the country this year.

It defines a "mass shooting" as four or more people being shot at the same time or location.

It said in the first 275 days of the year there had been 273 mass shootings in 36 different US states.

Unfuckingbelievable!!

And out of those 273 "mass shootings" a total of 328 people have been killed. That's including the total of 58 (at this time) for the last Vegas one.

If you take out the Vegas one then out of 272 mass shootings there have been 276 deaths or around one death per shooting.

It's still horrendous but gives a perspective as to why law makers and gun lobbyists in the states don't look at it as big a problem as someone who just reads the headline figure of 273 might.

Well I don't like it so after being a regular visitor to the US in the past I have decided to not go again. Good luck.
It will definitely put some off... I have a chance of a secondment to California and probably won’t go... I never thought i’d say that but there are too many idiots there... idiots with bibles and guns or both..
