Should it have stood?

If the trip would have happened in the penalty area it would have been given as a penalty so what is the difference being on the half way line cheating officials deprived us as much as us being crap

Quinn and Kerr both agreed last night that it wasn't a foul. I has thought it was a definite foul until Quinn explained Laporte change direction and ran across Demeble, the collision was on Laporte, nothing to do with Dembele.
So you have your heel tapped and sent sprawling and its not a foul. Ok. I'm glad Quinn has explained that.

Not making excuses as we deserved to be dumped out due to our inept and cowardly set up but that’s another story.

Their second goal though? Regardless of whether it brushes his foot or not I just can’t get my head around how he’s not deemed as offside. He interacts with the ball by skipping over it, it’s a dummy so he’s manipulating the ball which is interfering with play from an offside position.

I can’t think of any examples but I’m sure I’ve seen plenty of similar incidents given as offside hence my confusion.

please can someone explain to me the rules as I thought I understood them?
It was a fool how can Laporte get the ball he is fooled was in front of Dembele. I was like with Var it will be overturned at the same time the Beinsport commentator kept saying the goal is legit i was like a the hell is he saying it is a fool then the shock Valid goal...

Debating about should it or shouldnt it doesnt detract from the baffling selection and even when we get given it on a plate we should have equalised. That Sterling miss would have given us the momentum and they would have fallen to pieces after that. I keep watching that chance over and over again and still cant see how he missed it. Every coach from junior to professional standard level say that if you raise your shoulders and have your head up its going to go over the bar. 6 yards out keep your noggin low and miskick it and it will still go in !

It's offside as the pass is clearly to that player and it's a foul.

VAR and UEFA are fucking bent.

That goes against the rags or dippers, it wouldn't, and there are calls for a international fucking enquiry.

Unfortunately it’s one of those that’s subjective and can be argued in favour or against giving a goal depending on who is operating VAR.
Until that is gone from the game we will always be subjected to these ‘politically correct’ decisions

Anybody blaming VAR or the officials are just fooling themselves, we were wank.
Yeah I agree. Even on here, you can see how much of a fifty-fifty this decision was: some think it was offside, but no foul. Others think it wasn't offside, but a foul. Others think it was both. Many neutral fans think it was neither a foul nor an offside.

The real issue was team-selection and tactical set-up, and many players having an off day. And coming up against a good Lyon side to be fair.

In my humble opinion, any talk about the ref or VAR is clutching for straws and ignoring the real problems of what happened yesterday night.

He was offside and the first line of the law says it
He played the ball. He doesn't have to touch it

A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by:
  • interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate
