Unfortunately it maybe a necessity, the forces we have are just not enough, there maybe be lots of crying and wailing but there’s a pretty good chance in the next few years war might happen in Europe now. People have to stop this thinking it’s nit on our land because once it reaches our shores it’s too late. Many other countries have it and times are changing fast they’d need to get a move on.

Governments who don't care about the people and the increasing wealth disparity probably mean young people have less national pride than ever. Good luck getting them to die on the front line for their country when they can't even afford to buy a one bed in it.
Maybe that will bring back some pride, if we go to war there will be no choice, I don’t think people realise this, we are entering a second Cold War but it’s against more than just Russia now, if Trump sells Ukraine down the river I reckon he invades Greenland next and says what you going to do about it.

Well we've plenty kids in this country who are handy with knives, should be easy to show them how to work a gun as well

Or at least it’s a good way of getting rid of the little cunts.

Maybe that’s what the Russian conscription thing was all about, their way of just exterminating the Russian blud fam mandem types. Good old Putin had the right idea all along.

I'm not sure National Service is the right answer, conscripts in WW1 and WW2 were basically attrition. Anywhere but Russia and tactics have changed. We do I believe need to increase our professional fighting capability with investment in professional servicemen (and women) and technology/weaponry.

Sadly given the state of the nations bank account and the short sighted vision of our politicians, anything along those lines will be a token gesture at best.

Hard to disagree with any of that. It would also have to be europewide or at least uk, France, Germany and Poland to get anywhere near the force required to confront or deter Russia.
Maybe the answer is a combination of regular and reserve forces - like the US national guard. Large standing armies are expensive things to maintain.
