This isn’t about boycotting companies because we’re unhappy that Russia has invaded Ukraine. This is a tactic to get as many companies out of Russia as possible and the ones who are dragging their feet are boycotted to put pressure on them to pull out.The US are, literally, starving the Iraqi people after invading and murdering thousands of citizens over 20 years.
But the point was... "weasely" for the hypocrisy of pointing out this particular 'boycott'.
Okay, then...
This isn’t about boycotting companies because we’re unhappy that Russia has invaded Ukraine. This is a tactic to get as many companies out of Russia as possible and the ones who are dragging their feet are boycotted to put pressure on them to pull out.
The tactic is to build pressure from within in Russia. Every bit of pissing them off we can do creates disunity, disruption, anger, dissent, protests and strikes… or reduces their GDP, even makes their economy crash, or leads them into being a pariah state to most of the rest of the world.
It can be as little as pulling all Cadbury’s Flakes from shelves in Russia to Apple disabling Apple Wallet, up to Russia being taken out of SWIFT and having all oil and gas exports banned.
This isn’t about taking a moral stance on what Russia are doing or comparing “yeah but…” examples from the past. The only comparisons to make here are when we’ve done the same with North Korea, Cuba and the USSR in the past; Iraq doesn’t even come into the equation.
