Should we start playing with wingers?

I would love to see the current squad enforced with a decent set of (proper) wingers, would drive the opposition crazy I'd bet.

It's the pace of the play, movement and passing, that's the real key rather than just wingers.

No. Silva is the 2nd most creative player in the League (behind Baines) and he's missed a few games

We play pass and move. maybe we can get better at it. Going back to wingers would be a backward step. Though 'd like the idea of having a player like AJ back in our team who who could use as a Plan B

We will certainly sign someone like Jovetic or Lamela in the summer to give us some width as so many times this season (QPR, Stoke, West Ham, SUnderland etc) its just too easy for opposition teams to defend against us and we're not creating enough, plus nearly all successful sides like United, Barce and Madrid play with so much width and pace so its definitely an area we need to improve on in the summer. I can't see us ever playing with two out and out wingers though.

There's no reason we can't embed a winger into our team without it damaging our system. Anyone watch Tello for Barcelona the other night? And then you have a Silva-esque player like Ozil in a system with two wide men (Ronaldo, Di Maria) at Real Madrid. Options are good. I wouldn't play two wingers though unless we were desperate for variety.

No.

Fuck no.

Not in the way most of you are thinking after the Rags have a good game anyway.

Yes,yes,yes.

Its attractive, entertaining and by the law of creative chances, goals are scored.
They have RVP up front. We have Dzeko. Creating chances doesn't lead to goals. Ask Liverpool fans. They have more shots on goal than we do. They miss them

Silva has created far more chances than any Utd winger this season. It was in the Observer Sport section this weekend. Baines was top, Silva was 2nd.

Employing 2 wingers is not the answer. We have now established ourselves in the pass & move mould as mentioned.

Lets not forget that some of the players at our club were purchased when we were still trying to find our style of play. As we have now done this, what needs to be actioned this summer is the purchase of the players that fit this style of play & allow it to progress onto the next level.

We could try two big lads up front aswell

Agree with this. We need a Billy Whitehurst and a Kevin Francis type duo.

Matt Jarvis on one wing and Jermaine Pennant on the other and the Champions League is ours, not forgetting regaining the title.

Amazed that people dont think we need at least one wide man/winger who has a bit of pace and can run past a man and turn teams...

Any of these would improve us dramatically, and give us a DIFFERNET OPTION....... Something we have lacked for a while

Robben/Reus/Hazard/Gotze/Bale/Pedro/Sanchez/Di MAria/Navas/Mueller

What is our style? I'm not buying that were an established pass&move team if that's true were a poor example of a pass&move team.

Exactly, plenty of teams pass and move it, Bayern, Real, Dortmund and Barca to name a few and they have played with wide men/wingers... And all 4 are in the Champions League Semi's, so must be doing something right... But some on here are comparing wide men with 2 big men up front, in terms of being out dated... Give me strength..

should look at Bayern Munich. They have the perfect balance of a team like us or Barca that plays through the middle (Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Muller) and wing play of someone like United (Ribery, Robben, Lahm, Alaba). I watch Bayern Munich all the time and in pretty much every game this season they have broken down every team they come up against. We need a bit more balance, so yes, we should look to bring in a winger over the summer, we are just too narrow sometimes.

Not until we've got a good one. We need to convert more chances, especially those we create early in games. How many times have we battered teams for 20, 30, 60 minutes, maybe scored one goal, or have us wondering how it's 0-0, watching a succession of posts being hit, keepers having the game of their lives, defenders blocking the ball with an arsecheek, or slow Bosnians scuffing it gently towards the keeper. Of course, the opposition get more belief and equalise/win 1-0.

What we need to do is sign an absolute top class striker, ie Cavani or Falcao
Sell Dzeko.
Teach Silva to finish.
Buy a regular goal-scoring midfielder.

Any numpty that doesn't believe our play needs more width should really educate themselves on the beautiful game.
