Should we start playing with wingers?

I've said it before, it's not the lack of wingers that have cost us this season - it's been the pace of our play with regards to how quickly we move the ball.

We do seem to have a lack of "energy" in midfield though. Only Rodwell in the Chelsea home game has buzzed around the midfield applying pressure. We have too many of the same players centrally - Yaya, Barry and Garcia are all the same player but at differing levels of talent.

A pacy wide player would be nice, but if we only have one then it makes us lopsided. To use wingers effectively we'd have to rebuild our whole style of play and go to one up front with Silva playing centrally (think Ozil at Madrid) and then the one up front would have to be a "proper" striker. What use would it be using winger to whip crosses in when all we have in the middle is Aguero who won't get on the end of anything in the air.

For me our style of play is fine. We just need more energy in midfield and a better second creative option than Nasri. The problem is, is that we only signed Garcia last summer so i'm not sure we'll let him go so soon, but if it was up to me, him, Dzeko and Kolarov would be first out the window.

As a plan B maybe, have a player who can play as a CF or a 2nd role as a winger if needed like a Reus type incase we need that extra bit of width, otherwise we stay as we are with it through the middle and use the full backs overlapping and just pass and move. We are lucky to have Silva as he is perfect for the pass and move game.

don't know about wingers (plural) but we certainly need one top class winger (Bale , Sanchez , Di Maria etc)

Mancini's plan was to have fast full backs bombing on getting crosses in but it didn't quite work out, that is why he didn't buy or use wingers, aside from Sinclair who he never really uses.

We might say we play better football than the rags and on the whole we do,but the way they play has been succesful for twenty years and is effective against 95% of the premier league. If it works why don't we add it to our armoury?

with wingers our strikers would need to grow a few inches for the crosses coming in, well except edin that is

The crosses don't have to be high ones just whipped in low and fast.

We desperately need width. Doesn't have to mean crosses lumped into the box

That's 100% right. When Sinclair came on against Spurs, he brought so much width. I wish Sinclair would have been tested more this season. I feel sorry for the lad - he's a proven winger, scored a couple of goals last season yet he doesn't even get a look in (yet he is actually what City need - a winger). Didn't even start against lower teams.

Even Gareth Bale said it in a post match interview, he said something like "City lack width and when we made the switch to 4-3-3, it exploited their lack of width." Something along the lines of that.

I understand Mancini missed out on Hazard, but I still would have liked Sinclair to get some gametime, OK, not in the HUGE games but maybe start against Wigan..etc. teams like that. If Kolarov gets in the team once in a while, why can't Sinclair.
