Sierra Leone - sad news. Please help.

an e mail to the MEN from Tony

Not too long ago you ran story about Armani Sheku Kamara who runs the Sierra Leone Branch of the Man City Supporters club (3,000+ members). The story was about him being falsely accused of stealing football boots from another club. He was formally acquitted of those charges, but another tragedy has now arisen:

In 2010 City Supporters in the UK raised many thousands of pounds to provide a team bus for the Man City Sierra Leone Team to be used as a team bus on match days and to be hired out as a revenue earner for the team when not being used by them. I together with 3 other City fans and then Club Ambassador Paul Lake went out to Sierra Leone to present the bus to the club out there (Full story at www.sierraleonemcfc.co.uk or on the Manchester City Website).

The bus was a huge success allowing the club to climb to the fist division in the Sierra Leone National League and allowing for 33 full time pros to be paid from it’s income. These people did not have work before that and are now able to feed their families and pay for an education.

On Monday of this week the bus was hit by a lorry in the capital city Freetown. The driver of the bus is in hospital with serious injuries and the bus is extensively damaged. (Photos attached). Our thoughts are obviously with the driver but the impact of the damage to the bus on the football team could be catastrophic. The damage will cost hundreds of pounds to repair and the treatment for the injured driver is expected to be around £400. This is big money out there but at least the driver is alive. The bus was fully legal and roadworthy but there is no effective vehicle insurance in Sierra Leone. Any assistance from readers would be greatly appreciated the bus income was the club's main source of income. Donations can be sent a link set up on the “Blue Moon Website” or by visiting the “MCFC Sierra Leone” website and opening the page “How to Help”.

sad news details are sketchy at the moment but will update when I can the bus in Sierra Leone has been involved in a massive accident (not our drivers fault) - the driver is critical (not Armani) - fortunately nobody else was injured - but as we all know SL is as corrupt as hell and even though we have insurance as required - no insurance has ever been known to pay out there - so we are going to need to cover medical bills and try to get the bus back on the road - we are going to need people to dig deep if they can but every little helps - I and all the team a very very upset and feel deeply for the driver - but we have to be practical at the same time - so if you can please please help - there is a donate button here thanks in advance http://www.sierraleonemcfc.co.uk/

Had the privalage of bumping into armarni a few times over the years and chat to him on facebook when he is about such a passionate man the world could do with a few armanis.

we have had better news on the driver now - they have managed to save his foot which it was thought may be amputated
it is now in a cast and he may get home in a few days - thank god for that
