Sign of a good team?

Very happy with the point because we were well below par tonight against a very good team.
It'll be interesting to see how Chelsea get on at Villa Park when they play there in 2 weeks time.

If we can draw away and win at home against the better sides then we will be on course.Thought we shaded it tonight but didnt have enough in their penalty box

Would we have got a draw last year or the year before it we wo0uld have gone 1-0 down within 15 minutes?, i don't think so, we have come back and got a good point, i still actually think that game was their to be won if hughes would have made the right subs.

I'll take that as a very good point. I like the way our heads don't go down now and we keep plugging away. Villa worked very hard closing us down and are very organised and difficult to play.

Lovely move for the goal.

Still got a soft spot for Dunney as well and glad he has gone to a good team.

Tonight I thought we were well below our best but have come out of a tricky away game with a point from behind. That's the kind of result that will take us places. Last season I'm sure we'd have lost once we went behind.

Okay so a better team would have punished us for being so sloppy but we weren't facing a better team. That was a great result. Come on City!

And yet again we showed resilience and kept on battling.

Now if we can just learn to defend set pieces :-)

Good post. I thought that every one of our lads worked his guts out tonight. Proud of them (and Dunne, too)

When evaluating what the point means in the grande scheme of things then MON's claim in his inerview that his side had not played better this season...must be summed in.

Hughes mentioned in his about the poor passing.. all the top 4 teams have a big common denominator in that thier players can pass the ball about and unless they're given the hurry-up then they don't loose it cheap...if you loose the ball cheap 4 times in a match then it's a knocking bet the player will be up for the high jump....thats not the case with us....i've got a feeling thats about to change.

Although I was happy with our effort last night, your point is a good one and the easily lost possession has to be sorted. Sometimes, the lads lose their composure and confidence when pressurised - this was very noticeable in the last part of the Derby and again last night. There was too much hoofing upfield, which always annoys me, because it turns 100% possession into 50-50. Anyone can be meeting that long ball, them as easily as us. No doubt Mr Hughes will be working on it.

Great shout!
Would have been more than happy if offered a 1-1 draw at Villa, 4th in the league on goals scored, with one defeat and a game in hand at the start of the season. Good teams respond to going a goal behind away from home, which we did. Great teams would have finished the job but let's put it into perspective. We are by no means the finished article yet, but are making great strides to getting there, as this result has shown. Lets not forget how far we have come in a short space of time (4-2 defeat against Villa approx 1 year ago)
Villa will be in the mix at the end of the season, but did anyone else think they were poor ? Was on another post that we finished the fitter/stronger team, and a bit of favourble time added on at the end as per the swamp may have seen us nick a winner ! These results will give the team confidence and encourage us to go in search of the winner in away games vs lesser teams, as great teams do.
