The better news is that he's in the Spainish national squad. Not long ago, he was saying that his chances of playing for his country had been damaged by not staying in Spain. Hopefully, he will get into the national team now and he will be a proper happy little genius.

He was always in Spanish national side, he was just not in first 11 quite often... He'll still have a hard time to be regular there though

Well he was starting pretty regularly before the World Cup.
You should look at a couple of stats.
For the Euros 08 competition he started 5/6 games.
Hell for the WC2010 qualifiers he started most of the games.
Just take a gander.
