Homeward bound- written at Widnes railway station (there's a plaque when the yobbo's leave it alone!)

I believe so! Weird isn't it? ;-)

Best for me "The Boxer"

Aye, I think that is most people's favourite to be honest. It has everything.

I have a small inkling toward "the only living boy in New York" to be honest, mainly because I find it a bit weird but very telling that Paul was inclined to write about Art going off to do a film. It's almost as if Paul was desolate at being left alone, which is interesting when you see what a fine songwriter he could be when he was finally left really alone.

If you think of the words "the whores on 7th Avenue .. took some comfort there" at the time that was quite a risky (or risque) line.
Superb singers and song writers.

As a kid listening to "Cecilia" I thought some of that a bit risque too. ;-)

Isn't it odd that nobody has mentioned "Bridge..." yet?

It is probably my hubby's favourite of theirs, but whilst I admire its sheer beauty I don't class it as my favourite. I just find Simon's lyrics much more interesting on his other stuff. I particularly like El Condor Pasa.

not many upsides to being an old geezer but i reckon the music of the 60s was great,S and G ,Elvis, beach boys et al ,then motown dire straits and others, has not been surpassed, and i have'nt even mentioned dylan. Paul Simon is america's poet laureate imo, love his african stuff, but all his music is quality

I see you have "Gormenghast" as your location!!

Are you a fan of both Paul Simon and Gormenghast/Mervyn Peake??

They were/are magnificent. Was lucky enough to see them live in 2004. OK, Art's voice had "gone" a bit and Paul insisted on doing a strange attention seeking pirouette performance during "Bridge..." but the idiosyncrasies of their over 50 year partnership merely intrigue me and make me want to laugh.

They were probably the finest of their generation. Their music and Paul's songwriting stand the test of time imo.

My Aunt is 61 and finally got to see one of her hero's in the flesh last week, for the first time. Paul McCartney in Cardiff.

I think I got the better deal.;-)

Paul in concert in South Africa, and "Call me Al.."

Right clever sod he is, bloody genius with words.

Good to see him enjoying himself too.

Love them.

Was that gig in 2004 their last ever tour, when they played the MEN? I only heard about it the day after, I would have loved to have seen them live together.

Not sure tbh. It was their last one over here I think though...to date anyway.

Was a great gig. Art's voice lost its purity a long time ago methinks, but the fact that they were there together singing some wonderful songs made up for it. And Paul just came into his own.

It was a wonderful night.
