Sir Keir Starmer

I actually paid quite a lot myself to attend uni and I haven't relied on any form of state funding during my adult life. I pay plenty of tax and due to pay even more thanks to Reeves. It's probable that I will only be able to live off my private pension if I am actually able to retire.

The rhetoric that she's "achieved" a huge amount on her own is complete bollocks. She's had state help for the whole of her life whilst others have endured hardship. Many working class folk have achieved things organically without state help or being a parasite on the state. So please don't tell me she's a working class female, she's just great at grifting and being a freeloader.
Shes risen to the ranks of mp while rinsing the state?

He knows everything you understand? Pays his taxes and has never used anything govt funded - never been on a road or foot path and so on. Don't diss his superiority lol

You do know council tax covers the upkeep of those things you mentioned?

All paid for through taxes and NI and is irrelevant. My original post was in relation to somebody who has made a living from purely living off the state and is somehow seen as a working class hero despite not ever actually having a proper job.
She was a care worker for a number of years. Is that not a ‘proper job’?

All changed at 3.37pm when red Ange tweeted her support for Starmer according to Newsnight- safe for now but Streeting and Anas Sarwar allegedly were working together - both of whom emphatically deny it!

Listened to the Sawar statement during the drive home and have to say that it came across as very much a ‘politically, save me’ statement. All about Scotland and him trying to save it whilst also distancing himself from Mandelson, whose appointment he’d previously supported, and also gained capital from.

Seemed very childish in its approach, and used his status in the Scottish Labour Party to try and emphasise its punch.

Found it interesting when one of the media read out a message from one of own his MSP party basically calling him a traitor and only looking after himself.

Perfect example of the factions within Labour and why they’ll never truly change things for the good of the people.

Wesley being a **** again in his desperation to become leader...again...

Erm, you do, and have, received state funding.

Your degree was subsidised by the taxpayer, your healthcare is subsidised by the taxpayer, the cost of food you buy is subsidised by the taxpayer, your security, and by that I mean the police, fire service and the military, is subsidised by the tax payer.

You may not realise it, but you have been a beneficiary of state funding all your life.

The state promotes achievements...

Shock horror with a bit of misogyny!
Where have I been misogynistic? We are allowed to critique and question the achievements of a woman without it being mysogynistic. Prat.

It depends if they are a net contributor or not over their lifetime to date.

You could reasonably argue the tax payers of their younger years made some sort of investment in them which, as a net contributor, they have paid off many fold. Of course no one can say yet how much tax payer funded services they may require in the future.

You could make the same point about Rayner being a net contributor over time and that the tax payer of her time receiving support made an investment in her, although I do not know her tax affairs sufficiently to make a judgement, then again it’s not clear she does either ;)

Too much of the 'how many angels can dance on a pinhead' for me.

We lead the relatively peaceful and civilised lives we do because we live in a collective, and there are membership fees to pay.

Look too closely at individual contributions, and it all becomes very complicated. In reality, there are very few real drones. Virtually everyone, over a lifetime, makes some sort of contribution, and we all, without exception, take out. Admittedly, a lot of it is intangible and taken for granted.

Try living in Somalia. Very little tax there. Is it paradise? Seems not, as people risk their lives to escape.
