Sir Keir Starmer

It makes a huge difference.

Part and parcel of why we are where we are right now.

It really doesn’t. Brexit is now a done deal and it is down solely to the conservative government how that looks. Labour’s job as the opposition is to make sure that focus also remains on domestic matters. It’s possible but very unlikely that in four or five years time an election campaign will be run on whether we apply to rejoin the eu or not

Working class, fearless, sassy as fuck northern lass. She'd piss an election as leader.
Can't quite put my finger on it but something about her reminds me rather of Jo Swainson...

Its hard to say. Brexit will do absolutely nothing but harm to the millions that have been convinced it has been holding us back as a nation. To what extent they ever recognise that fact and accept it is hard to judge. The lies have been winning out for years now.

More than happy for us to have that conversation and possible choice in future years.

Democracy

We need a Lexit backing leader to gain the trust of the leave voters

We have that already but he has let his London elite shadow cabinet change the agenda and back a second referendum

Totally agree with this.

I know Corbyn didn't want to be a dictator, but his democratic approach has done for him.

Part of me wishes he put his foot down, but part of me is proud that he led democratically.

No one is going to please.
But Labour are desperately in need of a level headed moderate now - I don’t see a better candidate.
I told you Corbyn had zero chance a few days ago mate :-)
On the bright side, you didn't bet me that labour would be annihilated ...
Keir Starmer has zero chance, you need a working class candidate, not another champagne socialist Ponce....

Seriously, may I suggest Lisa Nandy, MP for Wigan, speaks very well and comes across as a very able and likable working class woman ....
Corbyn will try to shoe another of his cronies in for sure... Even though I'm a Tory, a weak and rudderless labour party is not good for democracy ..

Starmer wouldn’t do great either.

Way too middle class, London based. Labour need a leader who wants brexit otherwise they stand no chance in their heartlands

You do realise brexit hasn't happened yet don't you? The pound certainly responded well to the GE result.

im not solely labour, this was the first time i voted for them in a long while

if Boris makes Brexit work and improves on social services, NHS etc and we have a strong economy until the next election then i will 100% vote Tory.

for now, i want Labour to regroup- get rid of the momentum element and become more moderate.

Look on the bright side

You can set aside your disappointment about Thursday and look forward to months and years of being able to say - 'I told you so'

The thing is, they won’t. The next stage is for the predictions of doom and gloom to be proven false.

Starmer and Thornbury the creators of the Brexit policy that basically said any Labour voter who voted Leave was thick.
That will go down well.

It's a strong filter that though. Not sure of the metrics now because obviously there were new candidates in 2017 and 2019, some of whom got elected.

However, of the Labour MPs in 2016, 10 of them voted for Brexit. The other 222 voted for Remain.

As daft as it might sound labour shouldn't underestimate the power of a leader with a northern accent to re-engage their traditional base.

It's not daft at all, the front bench has been far too London based under Corbyn. My personal preference is for Starmer to be pm, I think he'd destroy Boris in head to heads, but a London based remainer is the last thing we need.
