Sir Waistcoat FFS (P65)

not entirely true, he's had plenty of high scoring teams too. You don't win what he's won just being negative.

I always thought he would make a good international manager. He knows how to win tournaments and not around the players day to day, so less chance to fall out with anyone. Besides I think him falling out with players isn't entirely his fault, the kind of players he falls out with are the likes of Pogba. He just doesn't like poor attitudes. Most of his ex players love him and say they would run through walls for him.

anyway he's not going to become England manager so it doesn't really matter but I think he would do a good job over the course of tournaments that only last a month
There is a reason City fans made up a song about Mourinho parking the bus because his football is ultra defensive.

I reckon he's kicking himself nows he's got a job in turkey.

Ultra defensive but he'd make sure there's a team representing the country and not individuals. All egos exposed to protect his own.

Potter even money favourite for the job.

Would rather it was Potter than Howe.

Not really sure why anyone thinks it would be Howe.

He’s just won an internal power struggle at Newcastle, he’s getting paid 10x more there than he’d get from England and Newcastle are happy with the job he’s doing.

In 1990 and 1996 we played well and were unlucky.
In 2018, 2021 and 2024 we were lucky to get as far as we did and was no surprise when we were beaten by decent teams. It was very rare when we put a performance together that could be described as good. Probably just 45 minutes against Switzerland in the last tournament.
In 1990 we were dire at the groups. 1 win and 2 draws (Couldnt beat the mighty Ireland and only just scraped a 1-0 against Egypt). Then it took a last minute goal by Platt to save our blushes against Belgium. Then we were nearly knocked out by... Cameroon. Germany was goooood, but again when we faced a top team we were out.

1996, started dire, 0-0 against the swiss, nearly beaten by scotland if they had scored their pen. Then just about beat Spain on pens. We had a very good game against a weak Dutch team. Then when we faced a very good team we went out.

We remember the final, usually tragic, games. Not the slow build up, the dire football. But now we will remember finals and being there.

My feelings towards him have mellowed over the last few weeks.

He was a bit of a Pellegrini appointment in some aspects. Garnered some peace and pride in the dressing room, but after a point he needed to move on for a better tactician.

He’s been better than Sven, McLaren, Capello and Hodgson in my lifetime of watching England. It’s up to the FA to try and push this forward now, as maybe they should have a few years ago.
