Sky bet advert

I get it each time I visit the index page before I can log in.

Genuinely sorry about this, it should only be appearing for guests (and only once in a 24 hour period). Am away this week, but will get it resolved ASAP.

You're away?! Then enjoy your break, don't be bothering with a 5 second advert, it's not the end of the world!

I get bet 365 which then opens in a separate window when I "Skip the ad".
May have to go back to using add blocker if it continues. I don't mind the banner ads but this is a bit much.

I've had the Sky one a couple of times today, if you're getting anything else then I would clear your history and cache.

Grrrr.....

Realistically though, people need to understand that Ric isn't sat there coding these ads as a way to fuck you. The site outsources its advertisements to a 3rd party who specialise in footy ads. This third party is allowed a certain amount of pixels on Ric's site in exchange for paying a small percentage of the running costs. And it is a small percentage.

Sometimes these companies take the piss and display ads outside the agreed size. We don't control these, they use very specific code that hides their intention. I'm just the server guy and Ric owns the site so deals with these companies but I have experience in this sector and after 6 years I will presume to know how Ric handles situations. Essentially what happens is that people complain on the forum which Ric reads and then he complains that the ad company have altered their agreement and they fall into line for a couple of weeks.

Here's why this is just stupid. People need to understand what ads on this site are. Every single time you load a page on the forum, it costs Ric money. Ric is a family man with kids and has a full time job, Bluemoon is his passion but not his source of income. Every time you load a page with ads, the ad company pays for that page rather than Ric. Every time you block ads, Ric pays for that page. Because people are dicks and won't even commit to the tiniest bit of irritation when they load the page, Ric and his family pay for the page that you've just been served. If you Adblock, I want you to reload this page and realise that Ric's family now has less money than it did because you couldn't be gracious enough to have an advert on your screen.

Despite Ric being on holiday whereby he shouldn't give a shit about an ad company taking the piss, he'll log on and send nasty emails to them. He'll do so because he actually gives a shit about you people and wants you to enjoy his site without getting frustrated with ads. This is why he's a million times a better man than I who would leave you to your own devices and pump you for every penny you have. Instead, Ric literally tells companies that instead of having intrusive adverts that pay the bills, he will pay the bill himself every time you visit a page because he cares about all of your enjoyment.

Which is why although I use Adblocker Bluemoon is green lighted to allow Ads. If anyone is unsure how to do this just ask, it really couldn't be simpler.

So before I can log in I have to wait 5 seconds for this ad to let me close it down?

Forgive me if I am being a tad thick here but why is this happening? Never had to do this before on any forum I visit so why this one and why now?

It's not only Bluemoon you'll find this. If you keep logged in (click the 'remember me' box) you should only see it once a day at the maximum. 5 seconds of your life won't actually kill you.

I know adblock send's you into apoplexy and I know how ads help fund the site. However, as a user it's my duty to inform you when the quality of the site is in my view compromised. It's your right to do whatever the fuck you like with that information and its my prerogative to take my clicks elsewhere when I feel the site no longer has the same draw whether that be due to intrusive adverts or inane threads about bread or cats. I'm a long way from my threshold and hopefully by adding to the number of people who have bothered to find the right forum and post about the issue you are more aware of the feeling towards this new more intrusive advertising style.

I did a good thing! I didn't need a lecture. Send me Ric's ISBN and I'll chuck him £100 for his holiday Bluemoon admin costs.

I'm still getting these skybet ones before I log in.

I'm a patient person, it's only 5 seconds but seriously...

Have them if you are browsing the forum as a guest but not before you can actually log in.
