Sky TV is going....

Apparently they have to ring you to get the best discounts. We found this out last year when sorting out my mum's Sky. Doesn't work as well if you ring them but you might get lucky. They do say that rather than just cancel, you should be upfront and say it's costing too much or you've been with them so many years etc.

When you cancel, you should get a call from a Derby number at some point. The one I got the call from began 01332 387xxx so watch out for that one. I was going to BT so I knew what I was getting and how much I was paying. They offered me a decent deal but I was getting HD and Fibre optic broadband with BT that Inwas 't getting from Sky so I thought about it for a couple of days but when they wouldn't budge any further I went with BT.

I was on a half price for 9 months package. Rang up to cancel when that was about to end, as I wasn't prepared to pay the full cost. Was on hold for about 40 minutes, until they finally decided to answer. I told them that, due to financial circumstances, I had to cancel as I couldn't afford the full price They tried various (poor) efforts to keep me hooked up, which I steadfastly refused. That ibcluded getting rid of the sports and movies, which is the main reason I have Sky in the first place. The lady then reluctantly put me through to their cancellations section, I then spoke to a bloke on there who put me on hold for a couple of minutes while he "talked to his supervisor". He came back and said that, due to me being a customer for 12 years on and off, they were willing to offer me another 9 months at half price as I was a valued customer. So I'm with them until next august when the whole process starts again. I can't remember when I last paid the full whack for their stations. Currently paying somewhere around €47 for the sports and movies channels with the HD pack.

I tried to quit once and after 13 phone calls and spending 6 days on hold I was put through to the dreaded Reichspropagandaleitung for assessment and consideration

the removed all toes from my left foot and told me I was lucky to be alive

I cord cut ages ago.

Netflix + Amazon Prime + WWE Network + iplayer/ITVPlayer/4oD + Youtube + streaming and downloading sorts me and the missus no issue, and it does it for about £80 a month cheaper than what we were paying.

So.....

I went online and chatted to a person, within seconds I got a call from a Scottish gentleman, very pleasant.

I am currently paying £87 per month for Sky TV and HD excluding Movies, and my phone line and broadband. I told him I wanted to cancel, he asked which service I would like to cancel which put me on the spot as I hadn't thought about my phone and internet. I just thought sod it! Cancel the lot please, He asked the normal questions about why I would like to cancel and I basically said affordability. He then asked me a closed question, "If I could reduce your payment would you be interested?" of which I replied yes! he. He went away and came back with £10 off, I said thank you but £2.50 a week discount is not going to change my mind.

So on the 18th January, I am going to be with out SKY TV, no phone line or internet lol.

Can anyone give me any good phone line and broadband options?

I have had a e mail today offering 50% off plus a £50 credit still thinking about what to do

Fear not, if you've said you're cancelling be ready to be inundated with phone calls from them to try and persuade you to stay, this is when you hold all the cards (unless you're adamant to leave) they'd rather keep you on a basic monthly payment then lose you as a customer.

Good luck

*Just seen bluekeith's post above after submitting, so it all begins.......

Yeah hope so as I don't mind having sky but I can't justify paying £80 a month for it. fingers crossed :)

How quickly did you receive the email from cancelling?

When I cancelled I was offered 35% off which was a week ago then yesterday in a phone call I was offered 50% off then today 50% plus a £50 credit . Hold your nerve

Bin them. I've just joined Virgin. Get a refer a friend for £50 discount and wait for an offer too... mine is Kahuna Sports half price for 6 months. Also got a £100 voucher after timing it right. Vivid 200 bb is out of this world. HD streams are unbelievably good. 182meg speeds I recorded last weekend. Phew!

You do realise that you're breaking the law by watching illegal streams!

They will definitely email and offer discounts, don't just take the first offer, the minimum you want is 50% off. I posted elsewhere that we cancelled to move to BT after our initial 12 month 50% off deal came to an end, in the meantime we were emailed with a 60% off offer on the TV and broadband half price, had to ditch BT due to their complete incompetence and took sky's offer to go back, now costs £60 all in with multi room as well.

They are advertising 30% off just by ringing, so they are taking the piss really with £10 off. I feel for older people who don't really get in to looking about for the best deal and just take the rises, they should offer the best price they can and not only to those willing and able to play the silly cancellation game.

I want a basic package of Sky Sports and not much else. How much will I be looking at?
