Had it loads when I was a kid and I don't forgive my dad for it at all. He's a homophobic asshole and disowned me alongside my mum for being gay.

Been told by someone who used to work for him, then later befriended despite being his employee, that mum is going for a brain scan in June and might have a tumor, but that's for another thread to discuss.

So yep, spanking is wrong.

He's a Valley Boy in South Wales and apparently they were all like that back in the 60s. His dad was like it and his son obviously seeing he worshipped the ground he trod on, went on to agree.

It's so wrong and tragic and got a punch in the face for my troubles. Also, a few years prior to that, he threatened to punch me for lying about my bank account finances.

Yep, everyone I know that I have told this to, are disgusted and I was told by him that if I still lived at home, he would have told me to leave and his classic line "pack your bags".

This is a guy who had an affair with his brother in law's fiancée for two years when I was 9 for christ sake and he thinks he's alright. Still, his father had a mistress all his married life and that never changed his opinions on him. His best friend has two gay children and dad sees nothing wrong in that, but when it's his own child, double standards apply. His friend is happy for them as long as they are, which is how it should be.

My mother even compared me being gay to being on drugs and needing to be cleaned......

Yep, that's the opinions of a spanker and a mother who approved of it. I once had his hand imprinted on my bottom once.

It's like a medieval or Oliver Twist era punishment. Never got the idea or reasoning for it, it's loopholed violence or abuse. The law is too trusting of parents. School caning is to blame.

That's the drawbacks of being an 80s kid.... The music was good, but the upbringing was in an era where spanking was seen as common.

Never smacked my 2 .They turned out 2 great young adults, as to be fair are all their freinds and peers. Almost like children can be brought up properly without hitting them.

The ones we are friendly with.that had children around the same time, didn't, the others wouldn't know. Don't think it's that common now and the vast majority of chldren turn out fine.How do you know these so called feral children weren't smacked ?

I smacked my kids early on but learnt its not the best way, fortunately! I was lucky, not everyone gets to learn. And then they get labelled by those who don't know anything else than what they experience.
