"Smart" homes

You will need smart TRVs on each radiator in the hous (expensive!!!) in order to be able to have different temps in different 'zones'

We have them since August and I already had to change the batteries twice lol

They 150€ for a 4-pack.

Ok so heating is as i assumed expensive. I still think it is pretty cool shit. I remember as a kid reading about Bill Gates then new home that had what a well setup smart home has you can do yourself now with a tiny bit of effort. I remember reading about it and thinking then that i must have that in my life.

Guys, I plan to make a renovation in my house and wonder are smart homes secure? I mean it's rather expensive to install but is it worth it? Is it possible to hack a smart home?

Absolutely. Anything connected to the internet can be hacked.

Having old school devices means for example people can only change the temperature in your house if they are physically near the thermostat or unlock your doors but only if they literally next to the door.

With a smart home if it's connected to the internet anyone potentially with an internet connection can hack into your smart home products and change your temperatures, unlock your doors, spy on your security cameras etc.

It's more convenient but it's definitely not as secure.

Your better off doing your own research to be honest. I'm sure it's very rare that people get issues with smart homes but it's something else you need to worry about. Making sure devices are updated (for security patches), making sure the default passwords are changed etc.

Personally I think something's are best just kept simple.

We've got Philips Hue lights and they are quite handy. We've also got an Alexa. I fucking hate the thing but it the father in law gave it us for Christmas.

No way in a million years I'd have cameras run by Amazon or Google in my house though.

Why? I couldn’t give a flying fuck if google wanted to watch me eating tea or sitting on the sofa watching tv. They’d soon get very bored.
