There are none so blind as those who wont see
Mrs BigJoe#1 is looking to get a new smartwatch and would appreciate any advice.

Looking to ditch the Fitbit Versa 4 and get a Garmin Swim 2.

The Fitbit seems hopeless and at counting lengths and is crap, it's Fitbit predecessor was much more reliable so its destined to be scrapped.

Looking at the Garmin Swim 2 anyone have any experience, particularly regarding the swimming side of things?

TIA.

I wear my Garmin all the time including in the shower - never had a problem

I agree Fitbit Versa 4 is shite. I've got one but only because it was free from Google.

Iv got a Garmin forerunner and it’s a decent piece of kit , used it for my 100km back in 2022 and didn’t need a charge , also use it for swimming , you can edit the length of pool and also use it for open water , tracks trail runs along with most other cardio and weights etc etc , I bought the music version but to be honest iv never actually used that function.

Another vote for the Garmin - superb piece of kit. I have the 745 but really use it for running/other sports rather than swimming but it's absolutely brilliant. I've worn it whilst swimming but as I'm not really a swimmer I've never bothered with the stats but it's had no problems in the pool and can take a fair whack as well.

I know a couple of lads who have had Fitbits and they broke quite quickly.

Amazfit are great watches but in my experience very unreliable, I have had 3 , all had to be repaired under warranty.

So I went to Garmin , a Venu 2 , faultless performance and highly recommend.

None.

Pointless stat generators.

Totally agree. I run and swim for fun and to maintain a reasonable level of fitness for an FOC.
I want to enjoy my surroundings, look and listen out for hazards and be aware of my breathing rather than being distracted by stats.
I get a weekly time from Parkrun to indicate my progress, but I'm certainly aware of all the variables around different courses, weather diet, hydration, sleep quality etc.
When swimming, I count my lengths in my head, and stop once I've reached my target or run out of time.

I’ve got a Garmin Vivoactive 4. Only cost £90 and having already had an expensive Apple Watch, the Garmin is much better.

Garmin Fenix 5 and have a Apple Watch.

Garmin is a beast, does the lot!

I had a Fitbit 2 and 3 then the Mrs got an Apple Watch, I never ever imagined I would want one but then got one as a present and now love it. Not sure how it compares with Garmin for the sporty types but it does all the stuff I want and can take calls, set timers, pay for stuff etc . I am an Apple Watch convert.
