Smoking

Amazed that anyone would want to spend £800 on a season ticket and risk getting a 3 game ban.most people won't risk taking booze to their seats but are happy to do this.
Probably the same people that abide by the smoking rule everywhere else as well.
Not a smoker myself but am amazed by how much compliance there is with the smoking rules, just thought smokers would have ignored them all together

Haha! The "Pro-Smoke in the bog" brigade are having a nightmare on this thread.

Personally I think the pro smoke brigade have been far more humorous...the anti smoke lot seem to have a stick up their rectum

Football has changed...and not necessarily for the better...it's all about selfie sticks...half and half scarves and gluten free food these days

Apart from you, you've been more angry than humorous. Haha!
Those sticks up the rectum come in handy for taking a selfie so everyone's a winner.

Enforced rigorously enough over time, the smoking ban will eventually be accepted. After all, you wouldn't dream of lighting up on a plane would you? By the way, I smoke. A lot. But I can manage to contain myself for two hours. But before the anti smokers champion my post, exactly where would it be ok to smoke? I can't smoke in the pub, in the office, on public transport, at the match and now not in my own car if there are under 18s in it (don't smoke in the car anyway). I often feel I'd be less of a social pariah if I was a hate preacher!

Your choice to smoke, though. There's plenty of help, supported by taxpayers including non-smokers, to wean you off.

Smoking is not a choice though is it...it may have been a choice in youth...Smoking behind the sports hall trying to look 'cool' in front of your mates...but then it becomes habit...and a very tough habit to break...I'm 4 years without a cigarette but even now I get a craving sometimes and have to fight the urge

Unless you have been a smoker you don't know the grip it can have on you...those that say 'You can manage 4 hours on a plane' don't seem to realise how torturous that 4 hours is when a smoker

When I smoked I needed to have a cig at least every 45 minutes to an hour...that was my nicotine comfort zone...and I reckon that's a pretty good average for a smoker

You obviously smoke even more after a few pints

What, in the name of Christ, has happened to City fans? Fucking unbelievable how anyone could come on and make such a big issue about blokes having a crafty fag - you'd get slapped from one end of Maine Rd to the other if you piped up like this back in the day - and rightly so. Busy cunts or selfish cunts? There's nothing more selfish than being a busy ****. Get a fucking grip. This is matchday. At City. If you're not happy with blokes nipping out and smoking - and doing it near you and your precious airspace - go and live in a hermetically sealed shed - well away from the Etihad.

Whilst I'm on - could I please request that all scarves remain tassel-free? Whilst scarves with tassels may have been de-rigeur 1920-2002, we've surely no need for such dangerous apparel now we're firmly ensconced in the tassel-free, non-threatening, non-smoking (it's the law dontcha know?) home, we now inhabit. If anyone does feel the need to wear a tassel type scarf, could they please desist - it may "spoil the atmosphere".

Ohhhh. You're such a tough guy

This argument/discussion will never be won/solved by anyone.......it will always happen....IMO.
Yeah,I smoke....not in the stadium though.
Only time I ever smoked in a ground was at the Riverside,8-1.....dint give a fuck that day.

I think it takes smokers on a nostalgic trip back to their schooldays. They seem to love the fact they are doing something that is banned, cupping the fags in their hands, smiling like naughty boys. I think it is pathetic someone can't go a couple of hours without a cigarette it is just selfish, like the knobs using phones in the quiet zone on trains,it smacks of a spoilt ''I will do as i please and fuck everyone else!'' attitude. I agree it is difficult to police short of banning cigarettes being brought into the ground, maybe if they confiscated their season cards for longer it may finally hit home?

Fair point willy, but I choose to smoke. And please, lets not get into the taxpayer thing. I would imagine that some of the (ridiculous amounts of) tax that I pay are used to wean drug addicts off crack. But that's ok. I have never walked in their shoes, I don't judge. But I have an issue with my right to choose being challenged.

IBH, i know how tortuous those plane journeys are, I've been a smoker for 35 years!
I don't think those cravings ever go away, but well done for packing up mate. Hopefully one day soon I will find the willpower to get out of the leper colony myself!

And while I'm on a roll, as a society haven't we got more important things to worry about?

I buy a half and half scarf every game and take my selfie stick everywhere. What's the problem?
