Smoking

I was in Morocco on holiday last week and was really amazed at how many people (foreign tourists) smoke
When we were sat on our balcony, there were a French group in the room below and all I could hear was a girl coughing while smoke was billowing out everywhere
I very nearly shouted "give them up love"

But what I think I found most really difficult to grasp was on the flight out (TUI) the steward when announcing the duty free was about to start, plugged and plugged at the price of cigarettes. He must have been selling them on the tannoy for ten minutes, how cheap they were, how they were British manufactured and not South African. Why you should buy from him. He went on and on so much that I filed a complaint on the holiday feedback form

These e-cigs seem to be more popular now than cigarettes.

Give it 10 to 20 years and you'll be seeing similar levels of addiction and evidence that they are at least as dangerous to health as 'normal' cigarette smoking.

Despite there being more information than ever available on the dangers associated with smoking, it's clear that some people simply don't care what they put into their body.

Most airlines' cabin crew (and most Duty Free shops) work on a commission basis that supplements their otherwise poor wages.

They'd obviously prefer to sell a few more watches and jewellery to their temporarily captive audience, but the demand simply isn't as great as fags and booze.

The best thing that's happened in recent years in this country was the banning of smoking from public indoor places.
I remember catching the bus home from school and my mum asking me if I'd been smoking because of the amount of stray smoke that my clothes & hair had picked up.
Similarly, that horrible experience of having a shower the morning after a night in a smoky pub when you can smell the smoke coming off in the shower water.
My only recent experience of passive smoking was when I went to Zagreb Vs City, and smoking was still the norm inside pubs. Was actually a bit of a shock to the system!

Never really got on with smoking, but thinking of starting up before we go on holiday this summer. Don't like e cigs, so thinking patches/gum for a month and then gradually working up from a couple to 20 a day over the following month. A mate who used to smoke recommended Marlborough lights or silk cut ultra as a good place to start but I'd prefer rolling just to keep costs down.
