Snow

That's why this country makes me despair
You've got -12 and carry on as normal, us, if someone leaves the fridge door open all the schools close for the day
It’s funny, it has to be -30c before they close the schools down here and that’s only because so many kids live out on farms miles away and have to wait for the school bus in the dark at 6:30-7:00

The problem is no one wants to spend huge amounts of money on equipment that may or may not be needed, place that you can almost guarantee will have snow every year will be properly geared up and can function. Why would you buy millions of pounds worth of snow ploughs that would sit for years and years, need maintenance on the off chance it snows a bit. Airports I agree probably should be a bit more prepared but the same applies.
My daughter’s school is already preparing for cancel days! Christ I used to walk two miles in a snow drift to get to school, these days with H&S they can’t wait to close, I wonder if I can find the local authority for the absence.
We have regular LARGE snowfalls in the winter and ORD doesn’t miss a beat until it starts getting above the 15mm stage.

Agreed, we do have unbelievably good snow removal equipment & crews, but I’ve regularly taxied around on all white, snow covered taxiways and taken off on snow covered runways.

What we found on the ground at LHR seemingly had more to do with Health & Safety not allowing workers on the ramp areas due to the snow. Laughable to us, but then it’s all what you’re used to.
