Speaking as an older fan, there was not quite the same tension in previous years.
No 24/7 news channels, no SSN talking games up, no internet, no forums, no texting, no phone-ins, no twittering...
Any tension tended to be created on-the-ground between fans. But the feeling was the same then as it is now. High tension. high expectations, day-dreaming of a last-minute winner against the opponents - a winner scorched in from 25 yards leaving the goalie stuck in mid-air, not one scrambled in from 3 yards via a deflection.
Dreaming of how you'd get to Wembley, how much it would cost, buying a new scarf or rosette with a tacky cut-out of the FA Cup stuck in the middle.
Finally getting to work on Monday, having WON the cup, and enjoying the reflected glory of YOUR team being cup-winners. Bragging rights lasted forever...
Nothing changes...except it will be a new experience for many City fans now, but at least I have experienced it.
