So the Lescott thread has been locked

Indeed, that is done. But the mods are people too, they have real life things to take care of, they don't get paid to moderate (take the shit that they do) and they can't be around 100% of the time.

Perhaps they can't be there all the time but eventually they will catch up and sort it out.

Thus bringing us back to the origional point, the growth rate of the Lescott thread was insane, to keep on top of the amount of posts in that thread would be difficult (during the aggresive moments). I monitor security software where I work, I see screenshots of phrases, images, words from 800 teenagers. If I leave it for more than an hour (two at most) without clearing it, it builds and builds and can take up hours of my time to go through it all. If I keep on top of it, down to maybe a page of screenshots, I can keep it in check.

I understand that the amount of traffic can be overwhelming but if enough members complain about the same individuals then it makes the mods life easier. Some people have the mentality that it is bad to "grass" people up but when people are being abused or people step over the line it's up to everybody to act in order to stamp it out.

Merging threads is an issue we are discussing, the problem being on somedays half the forum can fill up with people starting threads on the same subject thus making it hard to discern what is worth reading and what is not. But I also agree on the "monster thread" opinion.

If people would take note of the Skynet message, and at least have a look at the other threads on a similar subject it would help everyone, just a bit of discipline is required. As most of you know there is nothing more annoying than someone posting a thread when the same subject is being discussed a couple of threads down

Skynet has gone.

I've never understood these people who call for threads to be locked. If I don't like any particular thread, I just don't open the bloody thing. I can't believe people look on the boards and go "Oh no!! The 'Muffin Or Barm' thread is still running!!" What's wrong with you people? Can't you leave it alone? Just move on to the next thread that interests you.

It's BARM btw!

Thank fuck for that. The only purpose that thread served was to prevent any decent disucssion about Lescott and his transfer to City. What's the score with things like that from here on in though? Are we gonna see an end to all points and views from different times and situations lumped together in one huge thread full of shit, or can we continue to expect more of the same?
The general consensus is that if a topic is suitably different from an existing one, it will not be merged.

Unfortunately, though, we have a large amount of attention whores on this site who aren't happy with their comments just being another post in a thread, so they start an entirely new topic about it. "Hey look at me; I know what I'm saying is exactly the same as what's being posted in that other thread, but my opinion is far too important to be buried amongst everyone else's posts."

People just need to stop and think "Does this comment really need a new thread or could it just go in an existing discussion?" before posting.

If they did that, there wouldn't be such a need to merge threads.

yes yes yes, but what has been achieved by locking it? if it took on a life of it's own, isn't that a wondrous thing? there was always the transfer update thread if you just wanted the latest news.

it was plagued by flaming and other transgressions, but I found some of the banter and digressions quite entertaining. ok, it went off topic for a few pages at the end, but aren't there are still plenty of issues to be discussed regarding that transfer? should I just start another lescott thread to discuss the terms of the deal and the payments to agents, moyes not following up on his threats, the whole thing leading to the closing of the official everton forums, and what lescott has to say about the whole affair?

Yes, if such a thread doesn't already exist.

The sheer size of the original thread clearly put off a lot of people, so it's probably best to start afresh now that the actual transfer has been completed
