Phil Thomson came out with a rare moment of sense regarding that on Saturday & the few number of mistakes made regarding where & when to make challenges, compared to last season & also the centre backs stepping into midfield & getting that right & how brave & precise it needs to be, in order to work.

When you hear people like him suddenly say something like that, it really makes you wonder how they can see that & yet talk such complete fucking childish bollocks most of he time. I really do wonder if most of them are just basically talking like idiots for he sake of it half the time, to appeal to idiots.

Or perhaps someone sits them all down & gives them a coaching lesson once a year to try & avoid them making career ending moments of stupidity.

The average level of intelligence in these ex-pro pundits is shameful and shows how thick players of this sport seem to be. They’ve played the game but a lot of them haven’t let their experiences override their lack of intelligence, hence, they do not know the game.

The day any come along who can string a proper sentence together with insightful balanced opinion fact stats and tactics is the day I’ll take notice. Until then...

well to me it's like sitting a doctor down and asking them to expertly explain every individual operation that can be performed in the human body, what new technology and techniques can be implemented, the cost benefits of doing so and the treatment steps for every patient afterwards.

Once you strip away scripts and inherent partisanships, there are very few people who can be considered experts within football and at best people like Thompson have a strong knowledge in their specialist areas, but asking them to expertly navigate every subject thinkable about football for 6 hours every Saturday is daft in the extreme, before you add in all the partisan garnish and pandering to the audience, and the fact that he has to work with the likes of Merson who can barely string a sentence together.

Knowing who Kevin DeBruyne was, before commenting on him on tv, would have been a start.

Thompson was actually talking as if he 'gets' it on Saturday.

But just watch, he will let himself down with some inane comment about 'tackling' or something else, in the near future.

From an American perspective - I watch NBC's coverage of the P/L and generally Fox Sports coverage of the UCL (if I'm lucky they'll simply relay the original English commentary) - the pundits on American television are very aware of and highly complementary of Pep's defensive tactics. As good as we are going forward, pretty much all the pundits on American TV equally credit our ability to win the ball back quickly on defense.

Also, Ederson is getting huge plaudits - nary a game goes by where commentators fail to praise Ederson's ability on the ball - essentially transforming our squad into 11 versus 10.
