So what do we need in the summer....

Its over.
We are just a normal top 6 club again who will be lucky to win a trophy any season.
The guarantee of 90+ points most season days are gone.
yep fraid so. remember the pellegrini years which was mostly a decent, if aging, core from the prior generation (silva, hart, kompany, aguero, yaya) supplemented by a load of pretty average recruitment (Bony, Jovetic, Mangala, Navas, Demochilis, Sagna, Fernando)

Energy and new ideas, especially in midfield

Put this on the squad planning thread but will repeat myself

One expensive starting midfielder, whether its Anderson (my pick) or Tonali to drive our midfield.

Then supplement that with a younger CM who's around the first XI or can add to the squad and grow around the £50m/£60m mark, like Maza or Mateus Fernandes.

Keep Rodri, secure Doku/Gvardiol/Foden to long term deals

Get rid of "weak" players like Reijnders, Savinho & Rico Lewis.

Bring in Palestra to supplement Nunes

Replace Marmoush or Nico G if they leave, happy for both to stay

Stay away from Chelsea players

- A right back who can ideally go into the centre of midfield with the 6
- A proper number 8
- Ideally, a top drawer right winger who is technically excellent and poses a goal threat

Then it really depends on other outgoings.

I’d be happy to see us make big changes to the squad this summer, to give Maresca what he wants in terms of the profile of the squad.

I've been thinking about this as well. Taking into account the obvious situations of player contracts, not wanting to leave, finding buyers etc. will the new guy want a phased approach to remoulding the squad, or a more decisive start to his reign. Up sides and pitfalls to both potentially, should be interesting regardless of which way we go.

I'm a bit surprised some people don't rate Semenyo - he's scored some big goals for us I thought and has played a pretty big part in us challenging for the title. I totally get at times he's not looked great, but to me he feels like one of those players who works hard and scores even when he's not doing well. He will come good I think.

I'm wary of making a lot of changes after Pep - we need some of the old guard to stick around to make sure the new players know what the standard at City is. Players like Ake, Rodri, Kovacic all need to play their part on the training pitch and help Maresca stamp his mark on the club.

However, this season has had plenty of moments where we looked dead on our feet. In particular, the midfield has looked dire at times and we've made some bang average runners look world class at times.

I don't think we should be looking at players at the level of the Nico Gonzales/Marmoush/Ait Nouri/Savinho/Reijnders level. They aren't bad players, but if we put these type of players up for sale we aren't getting calls from PSG, Real or Bayern are we. They rarely affect games and as squad players they are fine but they rarely trouble the MOTM awards. We need to bring in players who are starters - not bench warmers.

I'm not sure who's available but we have to look at the likes of Anderson and Wharton - they will be very, very good players in future. Tonali is another I like and think he'd do well in our team. If Tchoumeni/Camavinga are available I'd look at them as well. We absolutely have to have legs in midfield and also top-level experience.

We also need full backs. Nunes has had a good season but has no competition and still has brain farts for me. O'Reilly has been superb but Ait Nouri isn't up to it - maybe he will come good but he feels a bit lightweight for me. Not sure who's available, but if TAA is we should move for him as he would have been world class under Pep's system.

Our forward line needs a really good think about. Haaland's breaking records but has games where he might as well not play. I don't know if he needs support or a tactical change, but he also has no competition. Again, I'm not sure who's available but if Marmoush can't play on his own then we need to look at someone else who can.

Disagree. A new dawn. New players. Fresh ideas. A great time to be a blue.

Its the start of a brand new era at our club. And to get that era kickstarted in the correct way then full backing and proper recruitment is a must

Well we'll find out soon enough whether the owners and hierarchy are still hungry and arent going to accept mediocrity.

Seems to me the red shirts and media are already hovering over our expected demise, with pretenders like villa and Newcastle getting giddy at it too.

Need to prove them all wrong with a very serious transfer window.

Sorry do you mean Fernandinho ( fernando ?)

The club particularly Hugo and the new manager have to be ruthless with getting some out the door. Savinho, Marmoush, Lewis and Ake should be gone. I also think Nico G and Trafford may wish to move on for playing time.

Then as far as incomings go we really need a midfield enforcer - there are sadly not many Kev's out there - but having Cherki, Doku and hopefully a refocussed Phil should fill our creative needs. A box to box player who can dictate the pace of play and stop counter attacks will be the key. In other words someone who is physically able to dominate.
During the last 2 years Pep relied on Bernie to set the tone and whereas he was fantastic, at times he did slow us down and often refused to put Erling through quickly. I remember Erling saying he had to adjust because of Bernie and Gundo playing slow possession football. We should become a dynamic team that plays to get the best out of our main striker. Pace and power with the craft of Rayan who should be able to play without a handbrake on!

I also think Semenyo would benefit from us playing faster.

A new out and out fullback would be good and I hope the new manager will go with Khush, Josko, Reis and Guehi to fill the central defence positions.

In my opinion we don't need lots of players but the ones we do get need to be more than squad players. We should then be able to rely on the academy to fill any rotational spots.

So - 2 midfielders - (one an automatic choice - the other dependent on Rodri's fitness) and one fullback would be it for me.

For injuries we have cover with Nico O able to go into midfield and Semenyo to play up top when Erling is out.

It will be interesting for sure.
