So Who's Going to Leave

4 Home: Hart, Clichy, Stones, Sterling
+
6 Def Foreign: Bravo, Sagna, Peres, Kompany, Otamendi, Bonucci
+
5 Mid Foreign: Yaya, Gundogan, Fernandinho, Fernando, Nasri
+
6 Att Foreign: KDB, Silva, Sane, Nolito, Iheanacho, Aguero

That's 4 home and 17 foreign and does not include Delph, Moreno or Zinchenko. Are we going to play Stones as a DM and lose Fernando or let Nasri or Yaya go but we'd be very short handed in the middle. I have to say I'm confused.

I hope Pep is a better mathematician than Pellegrini. :-)

I think in an ideal world Pep would like to add Kroos and take Nasri and Yaya out of that list with Delph sold and Moreno and Zinchenko loaned out.

With what's rumoured to be close and who we have, I think we need to lose
Zabaleta, Kolorov, Bony, Mangala, Cabalero, Fernando and one of Toure or Nasri or Delph If we also got Kroos or Thiago it would be 2 of those 3. That's without buying a second centre back.

We won't buy a striker Aguero doesn't miss as many games as people think, and Pep is quite happy playing a false 9, he used Gotze, Ribery, and Robben there at Bayern. He'd rather have an extra midfielder than a 3rd striker.

The situation at Bayern is special and not comparable...

Bayern had a third striker until a year ago with Pizarro. But - Müller and Lewy are players that haven't been out for more than a match or two since four or five years - Müller for all his Bayern career since 2001 !!! And - there always is Robben who has an average of a goal every 130 minutes in the Bundesliga - a scoring rate the most strikers do not have...

At Bayern it just did not make sense to have a third player who can play the 9. You do not get a real good player to play third fiddle to players who can play every match. We had the model with oldie Pizarro - but even for him it was a lot too less playing time - he went back to Bremen last season and had a third summer.

Forget the false 9 - that is only Messi. Pep played Götze as "false 9" sometimes in the first season - but in combination with Robben and Müller who are both more strikers than midfielders.

I would say Bony will go - rumours today he's off to istanbul (Galatasaray). Sane and Moreno can play anywhere across the top. so that's 5.
Still 3 others to go at least - Toure? Nasri? Mangala?

I wouldn't forget the false 9. Its not only Messi. It is something that Pep is quite interested in. Won't argue that he used it a lot in Germany but he would definitely go back to it depending on the players and situation.

So far we have bought:
(MF) İlkay Gündoğan (German)
(F/W) Nolito (Spanish)

So with all the following being linked:
(F/W) Leroy Sane [pronounced Zar-ney] (German)
(F/W) Marlos Moreno (Columbian)
(MF) Tony Kroos (German).
(CH) John Stones
(CH) Leonardo Bonucci (Italian)
(RB) Bruno Peres (Brazilian)
(GK) Marc-Andre ter Stegen (German)

That's 8 potential new foreigners.
So, who's going to leave? Our squad has the maximum number of foreigners already, so who is going to leave...
So far we have the following definite leavers:
1. MDM
Also we probably have the following leavers:
2. Zab (sniff)
3. Kolarov
4. Willy Caballero (if we get a keeper)
EDIT: 5. Bony

So who are the other 4 foreigners who are going to have to leave (3 if Marlos Moreno can be counted as an U21)? As far as I can see Pep saving YaYa will stay is just rubbish.

At least one of our CB pair of flops.

Navas. Nasri (too injury prone and too prone to not showing up.) i would not sign a new keeper. Just a stalwart English veteran type as backup. Fernando. Yaya of course.

The problem as has always been the case when we try and sell players is the wages. I'm sure there are a load of clubs that would like Bony but Bony isn't gonna take a pay cut and they can't afford to match his wages. So we're stuck with him.

If u watch, with now an elite manager at the helm, we no longer will be paying over-the-top wages to incoming players. Sure transfer fees will still be high as selling clubs will milk us, but players willing to join will now join more to compete at the elite lvl.
But yes, moving the dead wood already on fat paychecks is a problem. Hv to ride it unfortunately at the moment. So Pep's challenge wud be to motivate them, given they clearly are not staying back for competitive reasons.
