Cant agree with you there at all. He inherited a good side, has had £60mil + of signings,
Not quite true though is it? For a start we weren't a good side towards the end of last season and that's the side he inherited. To that he's added Zabaleta, SWP, Kompany, Robinho, Jo and TBH.
Zabaleta is basically a swap for Corluka.
SWP gives us pace down the right whereas we've lost Petrov offering the same down the left, so no gain there either.
Kompany is basically replacing the now past it Hamann and also having to do the work of the missing Johnson as well. Again no gain really.
Jo and TBH for whatever reason haven't settled.
So ultimately our only gain has been Robinho but to some degree that may have resulted in a loss of balance to the side (still glad we got him though). Our 2 performances before he signed were quite impressive and I think he may have upset that balance somewhat. Now Hughes has to try and address that.
We are trying to play a more attacking and expansive game now and as a result our defence is getting more exposed which Hughes is also trying to address.
Funnily enough some criticising Hughes' buys are also hoping to see Mourinho get the job. Didn't he also buy Bridge and Parker (as well as SWP and TBH)?
Bridge and Parker are buys that will bring some much needed balance to the side and I expect to see a couple more similar signings and then possibly one of the flair players. At this time we need a mix of steel and flair which we just don't have presently but which I expect we will have by the end of January.
