Some of you won't like this, but..

So winning trophies in the past makes you a big club. So Wolves are a bigger club than Newcastle, get real!

You are deluded if you think that next year Everton will improve on their league place. Always the bridesmaid never the bride.

Pls name one signing that Mark Hughes has signed that is a dud. Oh yes it's Jo, funny that!

So you agree your stadium is a museum?

Yes winning trophies over a sustained period of time makes you a big club. Neither Newcastle or Wolves are big teams so your point makes little sense.

I doubt we'll improve our league position... however the team most likely to challenge the top 4 is Everton. I accept its unlikely we'll actually finish in the top 4. The last 2 seasons we've finished 5th so I dont think its deluded to state were most likely to challenge for the top 4 when the last 2 seasons we've been that team.

I like Hughes and think given time and not being forced to buy superstars he doesn't even want he'll build a good team. Buying the likes of Robinho for stupid money on stupid wages is not going to build you a "team" capable of anything. Jo flopped at City and did well at Everton... not funny really its just he's now in a team with a great atmosphere not a one full of mercenaries.

Just one question: May 2009 - Are Everton a bigger club than Manchester City?

I would expect to have to pay somewhere between 20 and 25m. I'd say given that'll be practically impossible for us to get a bargain paying over the odds (by far) is unavoidable and all that matters is the quality of the player. He's worth it IMO.

TA would 20-25m do it?

(I think once we get a proper top 4 challenging team we'll be able to haggle from a stronger position which should bring don our average outlay. So I don't think the model of paying crazy sums now is all that bad.)

Hi Tony, yeah i'd say that would probably force our hand to be honest. We have Jagielka and Yobo so were not too bad off in that area and although Lescott is an excellent player the prices you quoted there would be too hard to resist. It would give us enough money to bring in a new centre back as cover for Jags and Yobo and also funds to sign a right winger of real quality.

Selling him for any less then that wouldn't be worthwhile as the cost of bringing in a new defender (say £5m) would mean there wouldn't be enough left over to strenghten the team in another area.

I think paying crazy prices is fine as long as your signing good players who will work as a team. I personally think it would make more sense to sign someone like Lescott who has been a success in the premier league then chasing a foreign big name defender. I was impressed when Hughes bought Given... thats the type of signing you need. Build a good team and then add the likes of Robinho to it, rather then the other way round.

I still dont want you to get lescott tho ;)

Just can't keep away can you Andy. 48hrs to go until your cup final but you would rather spend your time on here telling everyone Everton are bigger than City. Dear me. I know Everton are dull but I didn't things were that bad.

just enjoying a bit of healthy debate theres nothing wrong with that.

Also what does the cup final have to do with anything? Do you mean I should be discussing the cup final on Saturday? Yep been there, done that and am far to nervous now to really want to think about it anymore lol! Nice to have a distraction so I can save my nails for the match!
