Something for the more mature poster

If we look at it in a different light then there is no reason why we cant win it / compete to win it.

- at the end of the day we all play the same amount of games, and its in our own hands.
- we have a squad very capable of doing so.
- we dont have the added games, europa league / champions league.

I wouldnt say our chances are impossible.

The team or squad , are a long way off playing as a unit. So many new faces, possible formations which are already being hampered by injuries.Big plus, the new boys all know what is demanded in the premier league.
Top six is the set target i believe from the powers above, i`d be happy with that. It would be a real bonus top 4 .Though that would give us a similar problem to this season.

A year experience of playing together, followed by Europa league would benefit Citys pursuit of a strong challenge the year after.

Can you imagine if we make C/L next season,we would have another wave of new faces in the transfer window.

My opinion.........

Everton and Villa have European commitments which will affect their league campaigns, plus both have smallish squads. These two along with Spurs will be fighting it out for 6th, 7th and 8th.

The rags have lost two very important players. Rag supporters have been telling me that their defence won them the league last season. IMO the defence had a huge part to play, but all those one nil wins, who scored the goals?
A couple of injuries and they'll be struggling for consistency and I can't see them squeezing half as many results as last season

Chelsea are in a bit of transition with a new manager. They have a relatively settled squad (although some players are knocking on a bit) but their season depends upon Ancelotti having a working relationship with the players.

Arsenal play beautiful football, but it's either feast or famine. Like the rags they have a small squad, plus they are pretty inexperienced

Liverpool are my favourites for the league. A strong squad that only lost two games in the league last season. If they run with that sort of consistency again I can't see anyone else finishing above them.

Us, with the money that's been spent on very experienced Premier League players we must finish top five. We have no European commitments, so we have a huge advantage there. If we don't finish top five min, Leslie needs getting rid of.

For me this season's as wide open as I've ever seen the Prem.
I don't see Arsenal being strong enough to mount a challenge for the top spot. The other three could go tits up and we're the dark horse

Going tp be 62 in november and really think we can make a major impression this season...
as others have said the "top four" have all been weakened i i truly like the people we have so far brought in this summer
After the sunderland away game last year i thought with shawny back then we could be a power but that didnt happen even after the womderful demolition of the twitchers team
however i really believe that the squad we now have assembled will be very difficult for others to beat and think we should be top fourish come new year and from there we will step on and marmalize this league

I really thik the others are there to be beaten

The blue moon is soaring and i love it

Lots of love

and if you want to see City away always remember the Albert in Rusholme... best day out without actually being there

Your all forgetting one thing.............BENT REFS, payed by a corporate that don't want us anywhere near the top four money making machine!!!

It won't matter how many times the top four are weakened by players leaving, these bastids will always ensure plenty of freekicks, sendings off, extra time and penalties.

It's not Fergies masterplan or Rafa's ace rotational system we have to only beat!!!!!

I just hope I live long enough to see the start of the season. Waking up in the morning is a victory for me! Lol

No, being serious, I know we like to think the top four clubs have been weakened, but I'm not so sure. The window is still open, they have canny managers in charge, and they know their players and the improvements to be made in whatever areas, plus they have their scouts all over the world. The pre season isn't finished yet.

The odd feeling I have about City this year, though, and I admit it is not based on scientific fact, is that we may just do it. We probably won't and I am just oozing with an overdose of pre season optimism, but I remember the championship winning team of 68, and although I was only 10 at the time, I seem to recall our success came out of nowhere. I may be wrong, but I don't remember getting excited about matters until quite late in the season. I think it may be the same this season.

A curious thing about that side though, and we tend to wash over it as we had all those lovely cups to polish afterwards, was that the team was, in fact, very ordinary. Apart from 68, it was a mid table team.

You could argue they were being distracted by all the cup runs we were having, but I have always maintained the team built by Tony Book in the mid to late 70's was the best in our history. It was consistently in the top four, for the first, and only time in our history, and who can ever forget that night at Maine Road in 77, when we drew with Liverpool after City scored an own goal, we came second in the league, and Liverpool went on to European glory. We were one solitary point behind them. When it was 2 points for a win.
