He had 7 warnings and 6 temporary bans before he got a permanent ban. It's not something that is ever done lightly.

It's very much water under the bridge now and he's welcomed back. Did you have another name before Seosa by the way? It's weird but as a mod you remember certain usernames for certain reasons and you're in the "renamed user" file in my head from 2009/10ish

Yes. The young me would often spit vitriol in your direction before a good PM chat cleared the air, :-)

The Seosa name is ridiculous, apparently it's a real Brazilian name but I needed to get rid of my old one after some voyeur decided he wanted to track my posts.

Any clues on the name?

I can recall SEH but can't remember if that's an acronym or whatever and the account only has one post which doesn't seem right.

EDIT: I'm dumb, it would obviously be the same account as Seosa but renamed.

The very same.

Ha, it's a little irritating when you know somebody is renamed but you can't figure out who they were!

Welcome back anyway :)

Puts my level one warning into perspective (whatever that means)
mind you I actually have no idea how the warnings system works on here.

That would be down to the mod on the day and if they know you outside of here.
Some get banned for responding to abuse but the perpurtrator walks away Scot
free. (And yes I am talking from experience)

That's not how it works at all.

The one thing that I have learnt more than any other lesson since becoming a moderator on here is that nobody ever accurately reflects the events that have led to a warning or banning from them. According to every banned or warned user, they were actually the victim of some moderation conspiracy and not just acting out.

He got lucky. Me and Ducado seemed to have tried to moderate it at the same time, which is a very rare event but does happen in the hustle and bustle sometimes - he gave a warning to both whereas I gave out a short temporary ban to both. Whereas your temp ban stuck, I seemed to have not confirmed his temp ban probably due to something else coming up (if you recall the server was playing up that night and that really is my area of expertise rather than moderation). This was a mistake that I made due to time constraints and not a personal agenda against you or in favour of the other poster. Just to be aware that I have never met the other person in real life and have absolutely no relationship with them at all. I went to ban them but there's a confirmation screen afterwards which I didn't seem to hit with them which sounds like something that I'd do because I work in several tabs at once and cycle between them frequently.

As rare as little things like this happen on a forum that serves thousands of users and has thousands of posts per night, unfortunately they do happen.

Like most of these situations that we're asked to explain, it comes down to a simple mistake or lack of the full context rather than any malice or forethought.

Generally we're always frank and honest on this sort of stuff when asked but you'd be surprised at how rarely we're ever asked. I'll always tell you if I've banned you, and you'll probably know it's me by the fact of a temp ban which is my preferred method of crowd control. We get a lot of pissed off and pissed up users who aren't really malicious or anything but get caught up in the moment like the best of us - I'm no angel in this regard either and have been given the night off a few times when maybe an argument has gone too far. Bans that last a few hours diffuse the situation but don't tend to do any lasting damage - very much an attempt to separate and allow cooler heads to prevail rather than a proper punishment. Not particularly big on warnings myself though many of the mods use them as a way of letting the posters know that things have gotten out of hand; suppose I'm a bit stricter in that regard as Ducado and others will give people a warning so that they calm down whereas I give them a few hours or if they've done something really bad, a few weeks. I ban less but ban harsher whereas others warn more but do so more often. We've all got our preferences that we bring to the table and Ric sort of sits over us as a benevolent overlord if we overstep. Funny post in the Mod Forum the other day that had me laughing was when someone was discussing a user who was temp banned and the mod complained that they had already had a ban recently "but fucking Kofi Annan over here let them back on", referring to Ric which is jokingly accurate on the way we do things, and the type of attitude we try to bring

Anyway, glad we're sorted now mate :)

Damo is right. we all have different ways of dealing with things and have different levels of tollerance. i'll tell someone to stfu if they post shit rather than warnings and that. short bans are handy as the poster usually sees they have gone too far right away. it would have to be something incrediblibly bad for me to perma ban anyone, this forum is mainly for blues and we want blues around to have their say.

the op in this thread shows no doors are closed. he's been a right **** in the past. but a blue ****.
