Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

How do we know it's a one off season. There's no excuses left for turning out shit performances week in week out which is exactly what we've been doing since October. The players are now playing once a week so the tired excuse is gone, we're missing Rodri , Stones and Bobb now plenty of cover in the squad, that excuse gone. It's been utter shite and Pep has failed miserably with the players he's had available and he'll admit that.
200m splashed in January yet not one of those signings started today, wtf has happened there, does Pep not rate any of them?
Not losing our minds just totally frustrated with the garbage we're churning out each week, it's proper lower prem stuff

You'd get rid of the best manager we've ever had and possibly the league has seen because it might not be a one off season?

We drew a game. We didn't lose.

It's a down season after winning 4 in a row. Give Pep and the club a bit of leeway to get it right next season

More I think about it, the angrier I am about today. Exacerbated by Pep’s and Dias’ comments post match.

We’ve a heck of a long way to go to even compete for a PL title never mind a CL, which makes me question whether the club have decided that we’ve achieved the pinnacle so no need to strive for more.

Let’s see how many day trippers turn up if next season is the same. There’ll be loads of new season tickets available all of a sudden!

Twats.
Some posters criticise others for having a sense of entitlement. I would suggest that Dias and Pep's comments were pure entitlement. Soton set up to play and thwart the opposition not to allow them to walk all over them

to be honest Haaland offers nothing out of possession and Foden's form has dipped when he needed to step up to the plate. Its no coincidence that has KDB's talents have started to wain that Bernardo and Phil have been poor. Bernardo is at the wrong end of his career so form doesn't matter for him, but Foden really needs to get his form back and fast else all that's gone maybe as good as it gets for Phil.

Sure they've not had great seasons but selling because of a down season is madness.

Salah didn't do much for two seasons prior to this and now he's player of the season.

We don't choose to play this way. The opposition make us play this way. There was no point in the game where we could break on them. They kept to many players back. We just needed a lucky break in the box.
Playing the way the opposition like us to and relying on a lucky break doesn’t win too many matches.

Me calling out those calling for Pep's head because we drew a game is bizarre?

By all means question the team he picked and then not doing subs until late but calling for him to go is over the top.
Please quote where I asked for Pep to go. Waiting… Pep screwed up with that line up today, and everyone knows it. But nobody is asking him to go, but he’s accountable like everyone else.

They’re past it now though, it was a season too far.

They were superb in Pep’s system for those trophy wins, but time nor football stand still.

As was the same as Aguero, Tevez, Toure, Kompany etc.

I'm just saying it's possible to say that their time is up without calling them weak etc.

Agreed, we look like a team that hasn’t improved and I can see next season being a transitional one. Bernie, Gundogan and Grealish will be another year older and our only playmaker Kev will be gone. Lewis/Nunes not up to it and Foden’s head has gone. Plus it will be Pep’s last year. Really poor planning from the club and it might be a while till we’re back at the very top.

You are off again

The post you first replied to me on was me calling out someone asking for Pep to go.

There's been more than a few asking for Pep to go on this thread.

Yeah Pep got it wrong today, I'm not arguing against that

It is always tough to play a team who won't leave their box. That is just a fact.
We created enough chances to win but didn't put any of them away. Profligate finishing has plagued us many times this year.
There was, for me, no need to change a winning team, but that is Pep's prerogative.
Kev showed us, again, that it is his time to leave us and to do so with star-tinged memories of the wonderful talent we have witnessed.
There's plenty to play for but I am looking forward to the season's end and a chance to regroup. We are not the same side, and we haven't been all season, no matter the improved results.
On we go to the FA Cup final, remembering that a little over ten years ago, this was the match that started the ball rolling to an unbelievable period of sustained success. It can be the catalyst once more, so never forget what we have done, but look forward to a new rise.

I'm sure this has been said, but Mcatee unfortunately isn't the one.

He's like inferior benardo who's out of his prime.

I really thought Grealish should have started. I swear every time he's played for us he's never let us down on the pitch.

Hate speculating about situations that we know nothing about but it does seem something has gone on behind the scenes with Grealish.

Cannabis needs to be legalised quickly and some of you lot need to get on it for a chill. We’ve got ourselves back in a stong league position and I think today was a one eye on the cup team. Better a point than none.
Rubbish. Today’s mess is the kind of performance/ result which changes the trajectory. Pathetic effort from all of them after 8 days off and then a further 7 after today. We are a complete mess and couldn’t beat one of the worse ever PL teams, especially when we needed to today.
Our decline started with a piss poor performance against them in October.

Not sure what Dias expected from a bottom of the table side. The team should be used to it by now.

0-0 Man City

Manchester City

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias: "It's frustrating to play against a team like them. They don’t even try to play, just wasting time the whole game.

"I don’t even feel like they want to play the game or win the game. They are just sitting around. We tried every way. We had chances but we didn’t score. It is what it is."
We played teams like this for years and never had a problem getting through
We used to sit back a bit and draw teams out, Ruben grasping at straws here there’s no way we should be finishing attacks with Dias and Akanji in the positions to score and the rest of us crammed on two wings with big earl surrounded by 4 players.
This is on pep I’m afraid he must see it’s not working. Pep of old would be on the touchline going fucking mental instead he just sits in his chair mostly and spits.
This summer we just simply have to get it right we know the alternative.

Just heard Dias on the radio, WTF?!?!? Mate, they played for something the only way they knew they could get result. What did you all play for, sick and tired of winning, eh?
They wanted a point .. they got it

Pathetic by everybody involved today.. pep, Dias… everybody

Seriously the cup finals a week away. We were up against a side that has been woeful all season and wee again today. We could and should have all but.secured champions league football today. The team selection ensured we didn't. Now its back in the melting pot.
