Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I agree. Gonzalez hasn’t made any impact whatsoever either.

Grealish “was” Kova “was”. What’s that got to do with now? I didn’t say get rid of Khusanov or Reis either. Bobb looked special in the games leading up to his injury so there is hope for him.

So 'gut the squad' and mentioned 'entertaining Khusanov and Reis' but you're not saying get rid of them?

I keep getting images of us playing barca midweek instead of Inter. Sad to say that if it was true, I think we would have been ripped a new axsehole. We are a million miles away from the best teams in Europe and I dont think the players we have now will get us back up there. We need an exceptional recruitment drive this summer. I was going to post about the Southampton game but a masochist I am not;-)

They have started very poorly. It doesn’t bode well. But if we were to get rid of them after 6 months the director of football would be getting the sack so I can’t see that happening.

Reis has started 'very poorly' despite not playing in the PL and being 19? Khusanov has played a handful of games and other than the first couple of minutes against Chelsea and playing out of position with no cover against Madrid, has done nothing wrong.

And we're only keeping them to avoid the new director of football getting the sack?

OK

Why are we experimenting with teams at this stage of the season. Zero personality shown today. Only player who came on and tried something that didn’t feel like a set routine was Marmoush. Very poor

After rage comes depression.

I was boiling at the final whistle, but now it's really sunk in, like a dark low-lying cloud, what a God Almighty cock-up that was. We could have been comfortable tonight, and gone into Saturday's match in a good frame of mind. That's out the window now. Of the three that remained, that should have easily been the game we had the least trouble with.
Having done the hard work against Everton, Villa, Wolves — all potentially tricky games where a draw in at least one of them would not have surprised me in the least — the players must be utterly kicking themselves tonight. But we struggled in those three games too — that's the truth. We've not been genuinely good since last summer.
We may qualify for the CL. We may win the F.A. Cup. But there are hard questions to be asked, and short-term satisfactions should not deflect them. Pep's paid a cartload of money to answer them. Is he still the right man? I… think so. How can you say not, when you look back at the incredible riches of the last eight years. But is it the time to look back, now?
But part of that problem today definitely came from him. He starts Doku, Savinho, Marmoush and maybe Nico O'Reilly at the start of the second half, or shortly after it, when it still meant something, and I think we have a very good chance of breaking them down and going out say 2-0 to the good.
Ah, fuck it!

YLewis isnt, KDB isnt anymore and McAtee aint

Akanji has struggled with injuries but is good enough for a squad place
You can't just wipeout all those players. Everyone has had an hard time in midfield because KDB cant carry the light weights anymore and that includes Foden. No natural leader now Kev is done. Bernie has been off it for a while, Foden is not a leader he plays well when the sun is shining and things are going well, McAtee is having to come into the team while its struggling, Akanji has had his share of injuries and is struggling to get back into shape(defender anyway), Lewis same as McAtee. See what happens in the summer window. Win the FA Cup will be a result the way were going at the moment.

The epitome of the match for me was when McAtee was subbed, I'd forgot he was even playing. We have too many players who are hiding and doing the safe option of passing back constantly, as opposed to trying to make a difference.

Sorry Mcatee is not at this level
