Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I've barely enjoyed any games, the standout by a country mile was Newcastle at home, the rest has been average to utter shite
We have only played well against teams who play with a suicidal high line.

I don’t see how this improves. Are we really so dependant on Rodri?

Pep has become so risk averse due to the belief that we will concede goals if we take risks that we have retreated into this ultra safety first approach.

United was shit, Everton was shit bar the last 15 mins and today was shit. It’s been a regular theme at away games this season.

Whilst no football really expects to win every game it is more than reasonable to expect to win certain games partic with a side like Southampton given it record. What frustrates supporters is when decline is evident and predictable that the Club does not take the necessary action. History has shown in the cases of Liverpool and United that once a decline kicks in it is very difficult to reverse. The sort/type of players we bought at Christmas should in truth have been bought 18 months or so ago. The rebuild is now a much greater task than it might have been

Rodri’s cover has disappeared. When Rdori is back Gonzalez won’t get a game. Another £50mill singing warming the padded subs seats.

This is not a down season.

We won’t be challenging for the title next season with this squad, or what remains of it, and new players next season, playing like we have played this season.

It will be a few years until City challenge for the PL titles again, and it might not be with Pep as manager in the future.
First proper dip in nine years - of course it's a down season. As for when we'll challenge for the Prem again, you're just speculating - it might take years - we might be back next year. Lets wait and see. Our down season with a number of players at the end of stellar stages in their career is giving us a season with similar points to other megabucks clubs having colossal seasons.

I watched the second half on a stream and thought we were crap and totally bereft of any ideas or plan of how to create a chance, never mind actually put a foot through the ball and score a goal
As a supposed top side, we are miles away
Our players in training and warm-up practice these fast passing rondos. Why aren't they implementing this around the opposition penalty area when they have a low block?
No, instead we ponderously plod the ball in a fucking horse shoe, gifting our opponents lots and lots of time to reset
That is of course if KDB isn't smashing hugely over hit losses, or as is becoming even more frequent, under hit that don't get past the first man
I love Bernardo, but fuck me, he's been terrible out wide for two years and offers nothing. Why does Pep persist?
However, our utter stupidity was summed up when a cross actually made it into the six yard area where O'Reilly missed the ball and Savinho was in the same line instead of being a yard behind.
Sometimes they are so fucking thick!

I wonder as a 62 year old bloke on a waiting list for a new knee if I could do any better
What stream did you find?

Saying Ruben isn't a clown.... is childish???

I'm not wearing blue tinted glasses. Today was a bad performance. But I'm not losing my head on here, calling players names or calling for Pep to go because we drew a game.
I never once said "Pep to go" so I don't know who you are referring to with that quote

I did call Dias a clown, He's a clown for saying what he said and I stand by it, Who is he or anyone to tell the opposition how to play and what way to set up...

If a Southampton player came out and said "All Man City do is pass the ball from side to side"...None of us on here would be impressed by an opposition player saying something about our style of play, We'd all say "What a ****".

Same rules apply for Dias...He should have kept his mouth shut.

We'll agree to disagree.

Disagree - we play high risk and reward football - leaving ourselves open at the back in search of goals. You come across as the life and soul of the party. There used to be a sitcom called 'The Desponds'. Could have been written about you.

I'd rather gave watched 'The Desponds' than some of the turgid shite games we've seen this season.

The team reflects the manager.

We’re all speculating.

But there’s nothing from this season that shows we’ll make a real fight of the PL title next season. Certainly not the way we’re playing and Pep’s tactics.

In all honesty, can you see City challenging Liverpool for the PL title again next season?

No, neither can I.

And I’m not a knee-jerk reaction person. I’m just being honest.

possibly but i wouldnt say its a priority....the others are and sorting out our none existent midfield is in terms of goal threat and creatvity is the single biggest important task that we have this summer
The challenge is huge. We are a mess this season. Let’s hope we can pull a performance out of the bag next week in the two games. We need to.

I'm not worried, but if you think we were not piss poor today then you have problems, we know Southampton are playing not to get beat, yet we play slow pedestrian football, allow them to get into shape all the time, we had players on the pitch who don't t deserve a shirt and players on the bench who should.be starting.
Nico,Marmoush both should be starting on form,.but No Haaland is.fit,.so.he.must start,.he.was.an.absolute waste of.a shirt today,.I have seen more life In a tramps vest

We drew a game.

The negativity on this site these days is off the charts.

We've won 4 titles in a row and because this season hasn't been as successful some of you have lost your heads.

We're still 3rd and have a cup final to look forward to next week, then we'll recruit this summer and hopefully be back to winning ways.
It's not that we drew a game. It's the nature in which we drew. Anyone who went today, and anyone in the stands were getting frustrated at the lack of urgency, drive, and passion in getting us over the line.

The drop off from the fan favourites of the treble season aren't delivering. As fans we've seen them perform the last 4 seasons. They have given us this expectation of what they can do. Let's just hope the phrase form is temporary class is permanent. Amd it starts in the fa cup final or next season. With some big signings.

Next season we'll look quite different. Pep dares to be different - risk and reward - counter intuitive tactics - it's what keeps the trophies coming in. It'll be a sad day when, sometime in the future, when the team is just trying to play the same cautious style as everyone else - only better. Right now, win lose or draw, we play a unique brand of football. Just my opinion.

None of the world's great coaches has ever avoided a dip season or two. Klopp is/was a great coach - he had a fair few down seasons. Pep's had one down season in nine years.

Drew an away game we hoped to win but even so we closed the gap to 2nd place, maintained our unbeaten run and kept another clean sheet.

It's instructive of the mindset / allegiance of many posters on here that the Soton post match thread is over 3 times longer than the Wolves one.

He's done all he can. This season merely underlines that there's very little, if anything left in his tank. He's risk averse, devoid of fresh ideas, and desperately hoping that his old heroes will relive past glories every week.

He's yesterday's man. If he doesn't quit after this season, I'll be convinced that he's only staying for the money.

We’ve closed the gap to Arsenal by 1 point.

But we haven’t opened the gap to the other 4 teams behind us, unless you consider 1 point a success, which might be the difference or not?

Villa closed the gap by 2 points.
