Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

This season has definitely been an odd one, but it is what it is.
Back in December I'd have been delighted with an FAC final and a possible CL place.

Next season we'll look quite different. Pep dares to be different - risk and reward - counter intuitive tactics - it's what keeps the trophies coming in. It'll be a sad day when, sometime in the future, when the team is just trying to play the same cautious style as everyone else - only better. Right now, win lose or draw, we play a unique brand of football. Just my opinion.

You’re entitled to your opinion, as we all are.

I don’t think next season will be any diffferent because City won’t win the PL title.(in my opinion)

That can be the only difference next season, another PL title win or another CL win (if City get into the CL), and that isn’t happening with this team and squad, not even with Rodri back, and more new signings.

Pep’s tactics, style of play, and formations will still be the same next season.

God forbid, if City getbin the Thursday Night cup, they might win that?

I think most people will agree we have become boring and this started last season even though we won the league. We used to play attacking swashbuckling football, some of the best football ever seen in the premier league. Now we are very difficult to watch, even as a die hard City fan of over 60 years, I no longer enjoy watching us play. We have become anti football the total opposite of what we used to be.
Football should be entertaining and I am not entertained, a couple of times my wife has actually fallen asleep during games at the Etihad this season, which has become the theatre of snores.
Yes Pep is the best manager ever and has won more trophies than we could ever imagined but currently he is producing boring anti football.

Not going through all this. I can only say hope we got our shit show out of the way this week, and turn on the style at Wembley.

I'm surprised by your negativity. I'm hopeful that as we move into the summer and next season, things will change and a new City will emerge that will sweep all before us.
Let's hope so, hey? Coz this season - tonight - really does seem shite.

I watched the second half on a stream and thought we were crap and totally bereft of any ideas or plan of how to create a chance, never mind actually put a foot through the ball and score a goal
As a supposed top side, we are miles away
Our players in training and warm-up practice these fast passing rondos. Why aren't they implementing this around the opposition penalty area when they have a low block?
No, instead we ponderously plod the ball in a fucking horse shoe, gifting our opponents lots and lots of time to reset
That is of course if KDB isn't smashing hugely over hit losses, or as is becoming even more frequent, under hit that don't get past the first man
I love Bernardo, but fuck me, he's been terrible out wide for two years and offers nothing. Why does Pep persist?
However, our utter stupidity was summed up when a cross actually made it into the six yard area where O'Reilly missed the ball and Savinho was in the same line instead of being a yard behind.
Sometimes they are so fucking thick!

I wonder as a 62 year old bloke on a waiting list for a new knee if I could do any better
This deserves so many more likes.

And yet we're the 2nd highest scorers in the league, odd that

It's unique alright. No disputing that.

I thought every game was a FINAL.

Surely the strongest team is selected for every game.

Why disrupt a team that had won 3/4 games on the trot?

Why disrupt the defence?

I really wish Pep would stop tinkering and have some stability from game to game.

The match was scheduled to be played on Sunday morning TV here in NZ - suggested my wife watch other programmes instead.

We’re all speculating.

But there’s nothing from this season that shows we’ll make a real fight of the PL title next season. Certainly not the way we’re playing and Pep’s tactics.

In all honesty, can you see City challenging Liverpool for the PL title again next season?

No, neither can I.

And I’m not a knee-jerk reaction person. I’m just being honest.

Did anyone honestly see liverpool winning the title this season?

They brought in one player in the summer and they looked a new team.

We'll make changes and be back next season.

This is our first down season in many years. Too soon to be negative about next season.

I honestly can’t believe you have not stated the obvious in this post.

Yes.

Them, us or Arsenal.

I thought Arsenal would win the title finally.

Liverpool have made some very good signings over the last 2 seasons.

And they have kept the nucleus of their team together.

What Liverpool have got over City is fantastic attacking options, who score at will.

It will be the same next season.

All Liverpool need is a replacement for Arnold.

And they will go again with the same attack, team, and squad, unless they get rid of he who can’t hit a barn door and replace him with a better striker.

We will only be good if ed move these players which apart from kdb looks not to be happening as b silva and gundo will still be there and pep will stick with lewis and arkanji so i think next season will be more of the same . The post has helped us in the last few matches and luck and last minute goals have covered massive cracks we have so we need a big rebuild .

So you think we are not currently boring to watch.
Beauty's in the eye of the beholder Ben and while I agree with you that we're not watching the swashbuckling football of previous seasons i take exception to phrases like "theatre of snores" and "anti football". Maybe you were exaggerating to prove your point but even so some of it is way off the mark.

Anti football to me is setting up in a rigid virtually 5-5 formation or persistently breaking up the game with niggly fouls and disgraceful timewasting methods as employed by 85% of our opponents
