Southampton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Rodri’s cover has disappeared. When Rdori is back Gonzalez won’t get a game. Another £50mill singing warming the padded subs seats.
Some of my work colleagues are Portuguese and they there were baffled when we were in for him, saying he isn't City quality. They were of the opinion that Martin Hjulmand at Sporting is levels above him and would have been a much better fit.

City are in no mans land now poised between triumph and disaster in league and cup.

I think we may just shade it in both league and cup but I am not very confident. Not beating Southampton was a blow but we should all understand why Pep has resorted to such a pragmatic slow play. Our wide forwards leave us exposed and they don't carry much goal threat. Foden is struggling but if he were to return to form it would be a huge bonus for us, sadly this seems unlikely this season.

The labour of love is hard going but she is still afloat. Pep has no magic bullets we just have to take one Cup Final at a time.

A positive is that we might be able to rotate our Cup Final and Bournemouth teams due to the return of a number of players.

What I found slightly annoying is that Pep said he realised his mistake with team selection after 15 mins or whatever.

So why not just bring on Doku, Savinho and Marmoush at halftime to have a proper go?

He waited far too long to change it up and I can't believe KDB got so much time on the pitch. I thought he was very poor - so wasteful.
Yeah, you’ve balls up so just correct it straight away. With 5 sub’s these days it’s not a problem to make 2 subs after 15 minutes.

It was utter shite, and that's not the first time this season. This games gone, can't do fuck all about it. it's Palace next Saturday, hopefully Guardiola doesn't have another brain fart with his team selection.

He's done all he can. This season merely underlines that there's very little, if anything left in his tank. He's risk averse, devoid of fresh ideas, and desperately hoping that his old heroes will relive past glories every week.

He's yesterday's man. If he doesn't quit after this season, I'll be convinced that he's only staying for the money.
If you are correct and he's yesterday's man(I disagree). Who do we replace him with? All the top coaches out there are at top clubs and unlikely to leave. It'll be easy to sack him, let him resign, finding a replacement a lot more difficult.

As for staying for the money, pure speculative BS.

Are we blaming Pep or the players for this seasons poor performances?
We are. Our midfield has been woeful this season offered no cover for the defence. KDB, Silva, Gundog (they have been brilliant for us in the past and they have a legacy) haven’t got the legs any more. And really can’t all play together anymore. Kovatic is good but in more forward position. Foden has had a nightmare but he is one switched all the time. That cannot help him. We need energy in midfield and proper fullback. Yesterday was an example KDB, Gundogan, silva of yesteryear would have opened them up. Only my opinion.

Kills me to say it, but i honestly think khaldoon and Viana need a sit down with Pep now.

Its not knee jerk because of yesterday, or this season full stop. Signs were VERY much there last season as we limped over the line then collapsed in the cup final, which was a fuck you to the fans IMO.

It was the right time for tixi to go, he hasnt made a decent signing in a ling time now. Gvardiol the last one? And before that?

We have a shiny new, young DOF now and he should be thinking of the next shiny new coach to work with.

Pep has had no clue of his best starting 11 all year. Every team sheet is a guessing game. Tactics are all over the shop. Take yesterday, who saw us playing a team like that? His team selections are erratic. Players come in, do well, disappear. Players look shot but play every week.
Hes had trauma in his personal life. We saw the face scratching episode, not good man. The man needs a break.

Pep will go down as the best ever, and rightly so. Ive seen football being played that at times has blown my mind, head shaking at its beauty. But not any more, and not for 2 seasons.

All good things come to an end. The best coach in the world eventually becomes NOT the best coach in the world.

For me, its time.
Who to replace? Has to be Vinnie.

Obviously not the best in terms of performance or result.

I thought it was a rather strange team selection that lacked any meaningful width. Earlier in the season we played with conservative full backs and traditional attacking wingers. Recent games we've played with non-traditional wide players but attacking FBs to provide some width and pace. Today we had conservative FBs but without any traditional width players. It resulted in us having space out wide but without the FBs or wingers capable of utilising it.

It seemed more like a protective, keep ball line-up than a creative, attacking one, which is strange considering we were playing the worst team in the league.

I'm very disappointed with only a point but maybe at the end of the season it will prove to be an important point. There's a lot that needs sorting out for next season though.

Next season we'll look quite different. Pep dares to be different - risk and reward - counter intuitive tactics - it's what keeps the trophies coming in. It'll be a sad day when, sometime in the future, when the team is just trying to play the same cautious style as everyone else - only better. Right now, win lose or draw, we play a unique brand of football. Just my opinion.

Uniquely bad unfortunately:-)

This is all on Pep. All he wants to do is to play his same old favourites and out of form players like Foden. The new signings in Jan (Marmoush, Gonzalez and Khusanov) gave us a big lift in Jan and now they can’t get in the team.

I think most people will agree we have become boring and this started last season even though we won the league. We used to play attacking swashbuckling football, some of the best football ever seen in the premier league. Now we are very difficult to watch, even as a die hard City fan of over 60 years, I no longer enjoy watching us play. We have become anti football the total opposite of what we used to be.
Football should be entertaining and I am not entertained, a couple of times my wife has actually fallen asleep during games at the Etihad this season, which has become the theatre of snores.
Yes Pep is the best manager ever and has won more trophies than we could ever imagined but currently he is producing boring anti football.

Hard to disagree with that tbh, in fact I think the dull football although successful has been with us for longer than that.

Poor and boring is the worst combination for any team. Huge job in the summer. He turned it round quickly when he arrived so it is doable.

If the problem is Pep though then we will have to man up and find ways to keep ourselves entertained:-)

Southampton wanted a point so they weren’t the worst PL team ever.

They got that point against us.

Click on the link.

If they'd shown that determination all season they might have finished as high as eighteenth. They are shit which ever way you look at it and one goal against them in 180 minutes is bloody awful.

Agree with all of that except the last line

The good thing about playing in Europa League is that the stress level will be acceptable next season.

If we win it, it will be aha ok fine, and if we lose its not an important trophy anyway
The other good things will be low prices for European home games, plenty of room to stretch out, and some unbelievable excuses for not attending to support the team.
