From what I've seen he's neither an 8 nor a 6 but like Gundogan (although a very different player) something in between.

So he's gonna have to adapt to one of the two positions if he's going to come through under Pep and 6 has less competition.

Yeah, Gundogan is a decent comparison based on my limited knowledge of Doyle. My 8 theory came from the fact he he is not creative enough to play an 8/10 role and not a 6. Like you said, his best chance is as a 6. Poor sod has been playing for the EDS with sometimes two natural wide players in a midfield three.

Interesting team, but anyone else find it a bit odd that Mendy isn't getting minutes (not even on bench), even in 'non-essential' games? Because he certainly needs them to get sharp again, on the evidence of Saturday.

Given our 'luck' with injuries its exactly the kind of low key game where Mendy would pick up a serious injury.
