Gareth Southgate

The irony of bringing up Spain in this conversation is that if the FA appointed the English equivalent of Luis de la Fuente, you and half the forum would be spitting feathers.

A 60 year old with zero experience managing in the top flight and underwhelming results as the u21 coach. He's basically the Spanish Jason Wilcox.

Aye but Fuente wouldn't have been getting 4 cracks winning a tournament and last 8 years in the job if he didn't.

That's the issue with England, it's not the initial appointment per se, it's keeping a manager that was clearly tactically inept when it come to playing against a good side.

Any other country that's won things would've had Southgate out on his arse two tournaments ago.

To be fair to de la Fuente he has experience with the whole Spanish set up and they do play the same way throughout the national sides. They have been successful with that too.
And he won the Euros equivalent with the under 19s and under 21s. Also silver medal at the Olympics with the under 23s.

English coaching still has to catch up with Pepball. How many progressive English coaches are there out there?
