Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales | Resigns (p 34)

I don't see how they go forward without his resignation if that's the case.

Out of interest, what are some of the things that he's done in the past?

It's a shame that this is being talked about really. I watched the final and the Spanish girls were really good, especially in the 1st half and they won the World Cup with a fantastic goal.

It's a shame that this has overshadowed what they've achieved.
@SebastianBlue has beaten me to it in his post above. @post #145

She should have slapped him right across the face then told him to fuck off.
And there in lies the difference between this happening to a man and it happening to a woman.

At least in Spain, if he had done that to a male player, and the male player immediately shoved him away and started a screaming obscenities at him, the entire story would be “What in the world was Rubiales thinking doing that?” There would be zero backlash against the male player’s reaction.

But if Hermoso had done the same, it would have resulted in the current takes about it being Rubiales’ misconduct, but also just as many about how she “overreacted”, as they are now, and should understand he was “just excited”, completely ignoring the context of everything that had been happening leading up to the WC. And she would get all manner of abuse from misogynists, as she is now, saying she is ruining a man’s life for no reason.

Reading some of the posts on this thread takes me back to my days as an office Junior (yes that far back!) when I was warned about certain men (always my superior as I was the most junior member of staff) and I used to even avoid passing them in the corridor!
I thought we’d moved on from those days of being touched and mauled by men with power.
It’s beginning to seem we haven’t. Very sad.

They all got massive raises from Rubiales before voting for him to stay on the role and all backed him when the players originally threatened not to play in the WC if the women’s team manager and his staff were not removed.

The vast majority are older men, many former players, so part of the the “old boys club”, that likely don’t understand why any of the things Rubiales, Vilda, and co are accused of would be problematic.

And more over, they see this as not only a player power threat to the FA’s authority, but a threat of woman having power over men (as the FA is first and foremost for the men’s team; the women’s team is something being forced on them by progressive forces), which is very much a fear developing in a very misogynistic culture in Spain, with unfortunate consequences like Rubiales’ very obvious power moves in the presentation ceremony to show the players who was in charge.

I believe women should have their own FA and own resources that would mitigate the problems they face inside their own organisations, I look at this incident as one of a wrong 'un copping a feel and he should be sorted for it nasty bastard.

When City won the treble would I have kissed the captain?
Damn right, and the vice captain- and the manager
If your 20 year old daughter was playing in an amateur team that won a national cup competition, and your daughters best friend scored the winner. If you lost control of your excitement and kissed the goal scorer on the mouth what would the fallout be in your family dynamic be?
Although that's not a perfect analogy, it will bring home to you the boundary that was crossed.

It’s an interesting one because I can see the argument for that, but I also think that is addressing the symptom instead of the cause.

The FA of most countries is quite able at supporting both the men’s and women’s teams, and I think women’s football benefits from sharing some of the resources enjoyed by the vast wealth brought in by the men’s teams.

The reason it isn’t working in Spain is because the culture of the organisation is completely fucked. And that is a reflection of broader national cultural issues.

If you ask me, Spanish football seems to be weirdly brimming with fascists, racists and misogynists that have been allowed to flourish there unchallenged (some like Tebas seem to hit every note of wrong’un). I don’t know how you solve for that, it looks so endemic. You’d have to put the entire industry on the bonfire and start again.
