Aye, the Supporters Club took over the organising from British Rail around the mid 70s, Howard Yeats used to be in charge with Cheesy looking after "refreshments" (he's much better as a broadcaster). ;-)

Despite the trains being made up of old carriages they were an upgrade on Finglands coaches and didn't get bricked as often!

Took the special down to Milwall mid 80's when we won 1-0 with an Adcock goal. Safer than the coaches and we had a lovely walk back to the station I seem to recall

It was great when you went through a station where there were a load of other fans waiting for trains to their games. You could see them as you got nearer but they couldn't see you. Then you'd chuck all the apple cores and empty beer cans at them.

Good times

Remember going to Ipswich on it in late 80's, 7 hours it took, think it was similar when I went to southampton

I was on that one,as we pulled out there were a load of Blues on the other platform waiting for the "service",looked a rough bunch, think that's why Millwall hate us as they gave Millwall a bit of a kick in when they got to London.

I remember 2.

Burnley away mid 70s,I was 13/14 and most of our carriage tables were broken up and thrown out if the windows on the way, wasnt me I hasten to add.
Me and my cousin just sat there shitting ourselves trying to look hard.

Another was Southend away midweek in the League Cup 80s,train delayed on way back and the heating was off and it was freezing... 0 -0 draw as well,I must have been off my head to do that one!

The "Buffett Car"(think we need to be careful trading standards are not reading this thread) was a life saver though, happy days.

Edit - dennistueartismyhero - Don't complain about Oxford, anyone who went to Brighton in the open end when it pissed down & then they kept us in will know what I mean :)

many happy memories - travelling to all sorts of small local stations on a massive inter-city (even if it was pre war stock!)
except for..
Everton away mid to late 80's, lost 4-0 and train got bricked leaving edge hill, flippin freezing coming back
Oxford away late 80's, pissed wet through with no heating on the way back, longest trip of my life.

Thanks god for the pork pies and cans of coke from the guards van 'buffet car'

happy days
