That's the Governments plan for us to get out of recession. That's right, they want me (& the rest of you who work hard in order to live some sort of life), to gamble the future of my family by spending more cash now in the hope that it will bring us out of recession quicker. Yes, that's right, the hope that it will work. Well, I've got a message for you, Brown & Darling...

YOU CAN FUCK RIGHT OFF!

I am not prepared to gamble the future of my family in order to get us out of the mess that this Government has gotten us in to (yes, I know it was the banks, but who allowed them to get away with it?). These measures have got to be paid for some time in the future so I'm saving up for then. £118 billion in debt(!), and that's only if we start seeing a recovery in the second half of next year, which most people agree is unlikely. Let me tell you this... I think we are in far more trouble than any of us really know (and I include the politicians in this). We are well & truly in the shit, and I honestly think there is nothing we can do about it. I think we need to face the fcat that grinning & bearing it may be the only way out.

I've had enough of these cnuts now. Just fuck off & die you lying, cheating, robbing twats.

I don't know about economics, but surely the decline in manufacturing and the rise in tertiary sector (service) jobs must have contributed something to this over the long term. If we don't make much anymore, how are we supposed to sustain our GDP?

If they put more in my pay packet i'll quite happily oblige them and spend it.

Well as they're adding another 0.5% on National Insurance that won't happen. Good luck spending less.

I never spend anything anyway.Tight fisted git i am.

I don't wish to sound too pessimistic, but we are completely fucked.
The only shops that will be open come February are the supermarkets,
charity shops and Lotto outlets.
As for the rest of of us, we'll be setting fire to our own homes to keep warm.
Doomed I tell ya, doomed.
that's the only shops i ever go in

Cheesy
So Brown and Darling are responsible for the world recession?
Idiot.
Pray tell us what you would do with your great knowledge of world macro economics?

So Brown bears no responsibility whatsoever for the mess we're in?

I think I mentioned in my post what I believe is (unfortunately) the only way forward & that is to accept the situation is bad & going to get worse and that we may just have to work our way through it. You may say doing nothing is not an option. I say what the Government is doing is just going to make things worse in the long run.

Oh yeah... calling someone an idiot for having an opinion different to yours weakens any argument you may have anyway :-)

I was under the impression that the unregulated financial industries were responsible for initiating this world-wide recession. Giving out 125% mortgages, investing in markets without understanding what they were buying into, and talking up 'hedge funds' which is another area that nobody seems to have a clue about.

When you don't make anything to sell, how do you profit?
When we we can only contribute to the economy by spending - it's going to run out one day.

This year me and the wife are spending £10 on each other, just a little token on the day.
The kids won't miss out, I dread next year it's going to be desperate for a lot of people.

I'm self-employed (graphic designer), working for various advertising agencies. The ad industry, much like construction is on it's arse. Normally this time of year I'm turning down work 'cos I'm too busy.
Now I'm struggling to to find anything. There's a lot of people a lot worse off than me, I had a mechanic from a few doors down, offering to wash my car yesterday. I felt a right c*nt turning him away, he looked really embarrassed.

Again though, how can the economy hit a mechanic? If anything he should be busier as people are not buying new?
