Congrats sir malcolm, well done.

I've read this thread with interest because I have an offence from 20 years ago. I was on my mates 18th, and was walking up the street between pubs drinking a pint. 2 young cops stopped me. I got a bit lippy and was nicked and charged with "Theft of pint glass, value of 50p". I got a £30 fine.

This has never bothered me, Ive never had a CRB check. So would this come up on one? and would this exclude me from working for Royal Mail or for social services or whoever?

Would no longer be only the police database

Cheers Zin and Mamba, like I said its never cropped up but i'd hate for something so petty to affect anything I ever do. I had a 1 year working visa in Australia some years ago and put down that i had no criminal record, and it never came up or was never checked. Anyway cheers.

I think it depends on the job you're going for and the type of offence you got done for. Working with kids etc will need a detailed check that goes all the way back but if you're interview was for a bricky or driver etc then, if the offence was a long time ago, i'd not mention it.
I fyou work for the NHS you do have to mention it as you will get a CRB check

Coincidentally I have recently spoken to someone who works at Nacro about this very issue. They are of the opinion that certain bodies such as councils are requesting enhanced crb checks for positions which don't require them and thus are doing so illegally. The NACRO advice, however, until such time as the issue is resolved in the courts or otherwise is to declare all convictions. As Zin suggested you should contact Nacro to confirm this.
Was told off the interveiwer that this check takes 48 hours, and hope to hear something today.
CRB checks can take months

It would come up with a CRB check but as long as you disclosed the offence you should be OK

It shouldn't show on a standard search , but it might well show on a more 'in depth' one , such as 'enhanced' ..... but either way that should be well 'spent' now.
ANy conviction no matter how long ago will show up on a Standard search but Firms have guidelines about employing people with convictions

Yes it does show up, i got in a fight 16 years ago nothing major just common assault someone was giving my sister grief it was the lowest charge of a assault and it showed up last year,Trust me people think this spent buisness means the slate is wiped clean...its bollocks!!!

I got a conviction 44 years ago as a 12 year old for handling 2 stolen bottles of pop i received a conditional discharge & had to pay back one shilling & sixpence .It showed up on my CRB check last year

Once on it you are apparently on the Police national computer for around 90-100 years!

I recieved a caution back in 1993 at Bootle Street ..... and when they checked my record it showed up a couple of minor convictions from back in the seventies .
