Spice

I agree with you WAS. No government or legislation is going to stop people taking drugs who want to. I may be wrong in my assumption, but I think if all drugs were legalised, and clean, there would be less deaths from drug users, whether heroin, cocaine or E's,as prescribed clean drugs wouldn't have been tampered with by tossers wanting to make an extra few quid, and also criminal activity, gun crime and drug turf wars would decline. But I doubt that would ever happen as the Middle England Daily Mail reading brigade would be up in arms! They would prefer to see young lives wasted, kids found dead from "dirty" drugs in an alley way or some teenager shot for dealing on the wrong "patch". It's a discussion that needs to be conducted in an adult way,but cynical old me thinks it never will.

I smoke pot about 5 times a year and have for a while. I first smoked spice when it first came out maybe 5 years ago and it was very very similar to pot. I had it a small handful of times with no issues. From what I've been told a version gets outlawed...make a minor tweak to the formula and boom legal...illegal tweak it and then repeat. It's morphed into some EXTREMELY nasty stuff. STAY AWAY AT ALL COST.

Interesting read on an American university' football (American)team and how bad the drug can be.

"If you take the worst effects of meth, crack and LSD, that's what they were seeing," says Dr. Mark Ryan, head of the Louisiana Poison Control Center. "These people were paranoid, psychotic. For lack of a better term, they were out of their minds."

It also gives some history on the drug.

The criminal fraternity will always find ways of making money out of the misfortune of others. Legalise all drugs and they'll fight just as much over control of something else.

By taking away the shame of breaking the law and the perception that it is condoned by society, it could encourage more people to start drug taking, and potentially lead to more addiction.

Better the devil you know in my opinion.

Although more people die from taking legally prescribed drugs than these illegal drugs we read about. The amount of people addicted to pain medication and anti depressants is a startling statistic. In fact, many of the people who would proclaim 'drug users' are the scum of the earth, can only leave their house on the back of a handful of opioids and or tranquilisers, but don't seem to realise they are different sides of the same coin. The fact that one addict is legal and one is illegal actually makes it harder to get off prescription medication as there is no help, unless you are taking illegal drugs.
Whatever the answer is, this 'war on drugs' is being lost on all fronts and society needs to decide what it is trying to do. Is it looking to 'save people' (god help us) or is it looking to protect people? As much as half of all acquisitive crime may be to pay for drugs and much violent crime is committed whilst on drugs. It might just be time for a different approach.

There doesn't seem to be much evidence to suggest usage would go up significantly though. Since decriminalisation in Portugal (not the same as legalisation I know) numbers have continued to go down. New HIV infections have decreased, along with the number of deaths caused by overdose. Meanwhile, cannabis use in the UK is more prevalent than it is in Holland.

Whilst I agree criminals would probably find other ways of making their money, there's still no escaping the fact that the illegal drugs trade is the world's third largest economy. That's a hell of a lot of money being under the control of criminals.

A lot of the negative effects we've come to associate with the use of illegal drugs are more to do with the fact they're not affordable, difficult to obtain and cut/diluted with other harmful substances by dealers. I expect we'd see hardly anyone wanting to use drugs like spice if they could safely and cheaply obtain the thing they actually want i.e. cannabis. Definitely the lesser of two evils for me.

Personally, I think it's worth giving legalisation a go as the current approach clearly isn't working. There also seems to be.growing consensus from both the right and the left on the issue.

I disagree with your view that if something was made legal it would become more attractive.
Hahaha pure ignorance.

A large portion of the lads I grew up with are dead now because they first started smoking weed, due to its "coolness" somewhat Rebellious element, and the scum selling them this would often lace Heroin in it which got them addicted to harder drugs.
Before weed, they'd smoke cigarettes and drink cheap cider on the parks (adults going into shops for us and buying it)

So if these drugs were legalised, could you see Tesco lacing marijuana with Heroin, or with little Jimmy knowing his grandmother smoked weed for her arthritis, he'd think it was a fool street drug?
I doubt it.

Kids will always want to experiment, for me even more so when it's offered to them by irresponsible drug dealers.

Control these substances, license the sale of them, introduce clinics for addictions and areas for safe injection of heroin/steroids etc, and cafes for marijuana smoking.
Safe ecstasy rather than buying from some back alley behind a night club, and uncut Cocaine rather than the Rat Poison shit that the cheetham Hill Pakis sell to middle class uni students.

It's like going to your local river and placing an empty bottle in it and expecting to drink clean water.
It's fucking dirty.

It's much safer buying mineral water from your local Tesco.

Every addict would be registered, treated like a patient rather than a criminal.

Crime would be vastly reduced as the armies of shoplifters wouldn't need to steal to fund their addictions as the price would fall dramatically.

Value your car stereo?
No fear of it being pinched with your window smashed as the smack head wouldn't need to do this to get Heroin.

And to note - methadone (the prescribed alternative to heroin) according to smack heads is far far worse getting off than actual Heroin.
